Consider Arkansas State - a stepping stone?
For those who are moaning and crying about losing Coach Fuente, check out Arkansas State. They have lost how many football coaches to bigger schools lately? But right now they are 8-3 with one more game left in their season
Losing a head coach does not have to mean disaster. You just have to continue to hire good folks to replace them. I choose to believe that our administration will be able to do just that.
If you want to run around yelling that the sky is falling, that is your right, but I choose to look for the positive here.

Very few here know how to deal with the only time it's happened in the last 20 years was the Cal experience.

His name is Blake Anderson. He was the Offensive Coordinator at North Carolina in 2012 and 2013 and before that was the OC at Southern Miss.
Was a QB at Baylor from 87-89 before an injury. He's 46.
They're 8-3 and 7-0 in conference this year.
Strangely he was born in Jonesboro.

So, he could be their "Program Legend."

You guys actually think we would hire a guy who had been at Arky St for a couple of years with 3 or 4 losses each year. Get real.

I mean...Fuente had 3 losses the last two years and much more the previous two...so uh...
I don't think anyone's advocating we hire him. But apparently he has some interest and someone asked who he was.

He would be a better hire than odom. Defensive coaches don't succeed here. We can't recruit period. We must rely on a great offensive scheme. Why is this so hard to understand.

No thanks, I'd rather have Odom

Porter was an offensive coach. The last defensive coach we had was doing a good job before he had a heart attack and stopped recruiting.

Please keep ind mind that we lost our last 3 coaches with basically identical records. We can't get over the P5 hurdle in OOC play, and it's brought down our record.
That being said, you're not going to write us a 3 million dollar check to secure Anderson's services. Especially when you guys should know full well that we would invest the 3 million into the program, hire another great coach, and simply win 9 games again next year.

Anyone who agrees to a $3million buyout when he earns $700K a year cant be all that smart.

He didn't have a choice. He was told very early in negotiations that he had to take a buyout of 3 million for the first 2 seasons. If he wanted to coach bad enough, he'd take it. Chad Morris turned us down because of that buyout, other coaches have as well. It's not going to change.

To be fair to ASU, they did loose Gus Malzahn, Hugh Freeze, and Bryan Harsin in back to back to back seasons. ASU kept increasing the buyout of every year, but it wasnt ever enough. My guess, after 3 coaches in 3 years, all being hired away, they wanted to be sure that their next coach would stay more than a year.

Their hiring history was the point of my OP. This school has been able to make 4 outstanding hires in a row. Why would a Tiger fan believe that the University of Memphis is doomed to failure if Justin Fuente leaves? The pessimism expressed by some of our fans is unreal.

Maybe because it keeps coming from you over and over and over and over.
We don't recruit "they recruit"
