Fuente would be dumb to put his career ascent on hold because we might get into a better conference.

A Somewhat Bigger Picture
Not sure why fuente moving to vatech should be looked at as anything other than the natural career move of any coach or someone in any other profession. That's all it is. He has just about reached his ceiling at this job (in our current situation). He is now moving on to a better and more challenging role with a much higher ceiling. If your boss came to you at work and offered you a promotion, or another company offered you a promotion from your current position, would you turn it down? This is all were looking at. Not a big deal at all.

If We could have retained Odom I think we would have had a much better chance of keeping Fuente.

Tech is NOT the highest level....Tech is lower than BYU TEMPLE UH CINCY HOUSTON MEMPHIS NC DUKE BGSU MARSHALL damn near Vandy

You can keep saying this as much as you want. It won't make it any more true.

I agree about the culture shock of Memphis, being where he is from....There is so much media negativity in Memphis (shocking) actually, to anyone not from there or been away for awhile. When you're from Mayberry & you land in Memphis, it's very difficult to comprehend the stories on the news & the heinousness of crimes that take place, as well as the pettiness of crimes.....Fuente is looking for a "safehaven" for his family while he works the tireless hours that he does.....On another note, I wish him well & hope they remain safe...

VT campus has had its share of violence as well

What does Fuente's leaving say about our potential inclusion into a P5 conference in the near future? Would he have left if he thought we were going to be P5 soon?

Is it possible the lack of IPF funds factored into his decision? Does that show a lack of commitment to the program by the fan base?

The IPF situation had NOTHING to do with it.

VT IS NOT a better job! The ONLY player to bring acclimation to TECH was Vick, as he brought numerous players with him Deangelo Hall included....TECH is a program on the decline & the recruiting is not going to bring a winner there anytime soon! If ,Memphis played TECH as of where the programs are right now,TECH would get embarrassed ,just as badly as we embarrassed Kansas.....If we play them next year, TECH would get embarrassed! For the foreseeable future VT will continue to be a "bottom feeder"! There is nothing to suggest otherwise that a turnaround is imminent

Beamer took this team where he could by bringing in guys with questionable character traits.....Fortunately, there was NOT much to do in Blacksburg! You can see the same type of shenanigans that are already being proposed (by those same VERY questionable character guys) to try and HELP this NEW regime reach a "respectable" level....THIS is NOT Fuente's forte and THIS organization TECH is in disaster mode...THIS program stinks!

WHAT HAPPENED TO VIRGINIA TECH FOOTBALL!

Don't think you are correct...KNOW you are correct. Losing Odom last year allegedly over 300k, put one foot out the door. Then the IPF...we are getting better but we have a long way to go still.
That means around a $5.5-6 million football personnel budget, right? 3.5 for hc, 2-2.5 for coordinators and position coaches? It's the staffing that the best coaches seek in the commitment to win (along w facilities), ie retaining the next Odom.

Nothing, Vick has been long gone. No much before and not much after. But 7-4, 8-3 and bowling is good at some places. #AskMarkRicht
