Yikes!

Don't they know that if they want the attendance they need NIU in that stadium?

NIU fans might not want to taunt about attendance.....

When it comes to Soldier Field games, we can taunt all we want with how pathetic the showing is today.

NIU fans show up more for the away Chicago area games (SF and Northwestern games) than they do at Huskie Stadium. That's the sad part.

No we can't. Iowa and Wisconsin fans were always a strong majority of the SF games attendance.

Chicago is closer than DeKalb for a large portion of alumni, and they play at Huskie Stadium 5-6 times a year, of course they're going to be more interested in a game at Soldier field.

I think we can safely say, the Soldier Field novelty has worn off

Sure we can, thanks to Iowa and Wisconsin. Just remember the majority of the money we made came from who we scheduled.
Instead of taunting the ILL-ness, we should be letting them know we'd help their attendance at Soldier Field more than we can help them in Sham-bama, which is the only place they're willing to face us.

Official attendance 33,514.

I didn't understand why Illinois gave away a home game (two actually) to "host" Northwestern in Chicago. I guess I understand a Soldier Field game to get the Chicago area alums to attend, but why against Northwestern when you basically give away your own home game to have your opponent get a de facto home game? In theory, that would help overall attendance.....I guess.

The novelty has worn off but my wife and I will travel 360 miles to watch the Huskies play in Soldier Field should they play another game there. Good excuse for a mini vacation watching the Huskies. Somehow, for some unknown reason my wife prefers a weekend in Chicago to a weekend in DeKalb.

Games in Soldier Field are a good opportunity to engage with Chicago area alums and get them re engaged with the program. The school needs to be strategic though in the opponents they choose and they should not be too frequent. Soldier Field is a much better venue for football than Wrigley or the Cell.

For NIU it could make some sense. But not for Illinois.

Hmmmmmm. Some creative accounting there.

RE: Soldier Field Attendance (UI vs. NU)
Geez! Why cant they just build a "Lucas Oil-like" stadium in Chicago and be done with it? For one, the weather sucks and no one wants to be outside....period! I remember the talk when the B1G decided to have a championship game. Then they were thinking of rotating it between cities, with Chicago being one of them......LMAO!!! Riiiight! Secondly, the Chicago Park District sucks a$$ at keeping SF playable with all that goes on there. Hell, you put a stadium with a roof in Chicago, you'll get a lot more action in that city.....and possibly more people around this time of year for football games!! Think about it.....how much more money could you have made by installing a retractable roof INSTEAD of crashing a UFO into SF? But you know what? I'm no engineer OR politician so.....what do I know? Nothing....ABSOLUTELY nothing! *punches the 800lb gorilla in the room and runs out*

That was the paid attendance. They'd probably have drawn more (both paid attendance and butts in seats) had they kept the game in Champaign.

It doesn't appear that the previous games at Soldier Field have gotten alums re-engaged with the program. And, if alums in Chicago get re-engaged they still won't show up to the games in DeKalb.

Well then, let's just have a weekday ESPN game at Soldier....make it easier for the Chi Town alums to mix and mingle off Lake Shore Dr. and get home in time for some shut eye and be ready for biz in the A.M.

Illini are experimenting with moving this final game to Soldier Field to get back the high school state finals.
