CCU may have to do a little work to be competitive in football; they will be a threat to win the league in every other sport in which they compete next year.

To be fair, CCU's last season in FCS was a whole lot better than either App's or GS's, and look what happened there.

You've got your timeline confused.
Coastal still has their transition year to muddle through. Georgia Southern and App both made the playoffs in their last true FCS season in 2012, with Georgia Southern making the semifinals.

Nevertheless, welcome to the conference CCU, even if you have your work cut out for you.
Wait. An FBS option team beat an FCS option team. Stop the presses.
Also, The Citadel beat An SEC team a week earlier. That should add perspective to what happened yesterday.

2012, is that the year GS lost to the Citadel?

That was the year Citadel somehow beat App and GS, and still finished like 5th in the conference.

After GS had gone to the final 4 three straight years and a year before they ran the table in the Sunbelt... Also in 2013 GS defeated Florida in the last game if the season (when they finally got somewhat healthy) so I'm not sure how a first round playoff exit trumps that.
This is not an excuse but a reason... Take a look at GS's roster in 2013 and look how many guys got hurt and how many guys got red-shirted. They played with about half a team that year, partly by chance and partly by design.
If GS wins either of their next 2 games it will be the 5th time in the last 6 seasons they have >/= 9 wins. If they win both it will be the 4th time in the last 6 years with 10 wins. Body of work.........

Body of work doesn't mean just football when looking to bring someone into conference. You think we'd be here if that's all that was looked at? Also, CCU doesn't have much more than 10 years of football to measure, do they? They've been to the playoffs 6 times in 12 years. What do you want? TXST went twice in 27 yrs of DI.
The SBC knew what they were getting bringing App and GS on an they know what they are getting bringing in CCU. We all knew how good your programs were before the invites, why do you have to rag on the new guys before they even get here? They have 2 years to bring in more players and better talent then will need time to build depth. Not every program has what you had.
They had a good season. They lost in a playoff game but instead of saying good job you come in and thump your chest. Seriously, what do you want?

I thought the last couple of years demonstrated nicely that a playoff-caliber FCS program would fit in perfectly in the Sun Belt.

Now, now, it was actually a quarter and a half.
Body of work mi amigo... GS has managed to string together a 14-1 league record in two years, comfortably the best in the conference over that period. CCU has yet to play a game. They are going to have to earn it the same way App and GS has. It is yet to be determined if they are up for it.
I don't recall your offense doing anything after the first drive.
The CCU add wasn't about football.

What you should be concerned about is the attendance of the game. 6,700 for a home playoff game and if you read on the Coastal board, the Citidal fans were at least half of the 6,700.

Playoff games on Thanksgiving weekend are always lowly attended.

Come on Eagleskins,
Of all the SoCon teams, The Citadel is one that more times than I care to remember had, or nearly had our number. They have a great scheme and they don't give up. They did take down the Gamecocks last week, who nearly knocked off #1 Clemson.
There was no shame in this narrow loss, though the sting for CCU is great.
Congrats to CCU on making the playoffs, I know a playoff loss hurts a lot.
Especially when it's your last chance at it.
Here's to many years of great football between our programs.
Wish you guys were already here so that we could go ahead and have a CCG.

Liberty fans wouldn't know ... they've only been to the playoffs once and never hosted. It is easier for them to cast stones.

You are aware what weekend that game fell on right? Thanksgiving. Not making excuses, but my family lives in another state and haven't seen them in a year. I would rather be with them an extra day. Sorry everyone isn't from the same trailer park in Lynchburg.

That's not good!
Young program with few alum support to rally small existing fans. I'm more concerned with Coastal and their future if they struggle in SBC play.
It's easy to attract fans when you're winning. Unfortunately when your team has 3 wins for the season, it's a difficult task.
