Would be a pretty good hire.

RE: DMN: 2 Finalists for UNT Job
I've heard of Assistant Head Coach, Co-Offensive (or Def) Coordinator and Associate Head Coach but don't think I've ever seen Assistant Head Coach for Offense. I realize in most situations schools come up with different titles to justify pay raises but it makes me wonder what they will come up with next....Assistant to the Assistant

RE: DMN: 2 Finalists for UNT Job
Im surprised our old coach didn't campaign for the N Texas job. He went 8-5 in his last two seasons and recruited the vast majority of a ranked Houston squad. he recruits Texas fairly well. His problem was he didn't surround himself with the best coaching talent available. I think he could be a good coach if you paid him modestly, but held back enough to significantly upgrade the assistant coach funding in order to surround him better quality. Maybe require a joint "OK" between coach and AD for the crucial OC and DC hires. Levine can recruit, he just lacks any special background as a OC or DC so he lives and dies by his OC/DC selections. If you surround him with good OC and DC---he'd probably field some darn good teams. My guess is that he has learned his lesson and will be far more careful with his OC/DC hires if he ever gets another chance.
That said, Meacham's a good candidate (Im surprised he would pass on being an HC). I don't know much about the other guy under consideration.

Levine was talked about very positively on the Go Mean Green board. He built the Houston team that's doing so well. There was hope that if Meacham was hired he might bring Levine in. However, we were specifically looking for a young offensive coordinator and Levine doesn't really match.
We interviewed Meacham (not young but great offenses), the Oregon OC, the North Carolina play caller, Oklahoma OC, Baylor OC. We interviewed lots of very talented and young OC's. Littrell is really exciting a lot of us. His offensives has always been explosive at three different P5 schools and he has shown a good ability to recruit (something Meacham doesn't seem to do as well).

I'm pretty happy if it's Littrell. While all signs point to it being a done deal, I won't hold my breath until it's officially announced. Over the years, as a fan of the Mean Green, I've come to learn that nothing good happens to those who...well that's it. Nothing good happens to UNT.
