End of the (Regular) Season
So, the end of the regular season is here... What changes do you EXPECT to (realistically) happen in the off-season with the FB program?
_______________________________________

I expect that Coach Tuberville, following previous patterns, will throw DC Clinkscale under the bus and hire another failed DC from a different program. Different day, same tune.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
1. Tubberville gets fed up with poor play calling and coaching
2. Eddie Gran moves on (hired away or fired)
3. Another strong recruiting class (50-60 range)
4. Senior leaders start leading, finally
5. UC gets P5 invitation IF realignment occurs

All the pieces are in place for success. It's up to the players to make it happen.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
I have been very vocal about the current head coach, and my belief that he treats our program like retirement. I think that he is a powerless figurehead that likes the idea of being a coach, but does not want to put in the grunt work. Would Bill Belicheck allow a ga to coach your special teams all season long even though the group has been a disaster. Kick returners do not appear that they have ever returned kicks, penalties, and poor coverage are hallmarks of this group.

I think Clink is a good coach, but I Could see him thrown under the bus. We need to turn the opposing team offense over more, but that will come with technique and physical growth of the young players. These guys can tackle, unlike last years team. Gran has been a good coach. He needs to work on turnovers.

I hope that we do not lose any players to transfer. If I were Boone and Moore, I would be looking around.

In short, as long as Tuberville is coach, we will not be firing on all cylinders. I think our new expectation is 7-5 with losses to Houston, ECU, USF, and whoever is up that year. We are no longer seen as a dominant program over any team except maybe Tulane, Tulsa, and SMU. I expect further drop off as the brand continues to fade. If we want to turn this around, we need to watch Houston.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
I don't think Clink gets thrown under the bus. Defense is young and improving. I look at the offense with all the veteran talent being a turnover disaster and I think Grans been much more of a problem. Don't think he'll leave though. If anything changes it will be special teams.

I thought his classes have been in the 60-70 range so far. No matter.

I could go for TT being moved into the administration to clean up that final 4.5 million of the nest egg fund as Program PR Coach Emeritus.

Gran could move. He's no dummy.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
If Gran goes we are likely bringing in a while new offensive coaching staff. Gran will take Hinshaw and Hiller with him for sure. He was the one who brought them here not Tubs.

That being said I don't know if he is going anywhere.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
Sitting around here bored so on Dish I checked out ESPN Classic and one of the options is 2012 Belk Bowl UC vs Duke so I turned it on...opening line from the announcer:

"Welcome to the Belk Bowl. A bowl win for Duke would be monumental but it won't come easy against a Cincinnati team looking for yet another 10 win season."

SIGH

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
Unless CTT pulls a shocker and retires, he'll be here next year. Plus, Tubbs is still seen as the "Experienced Paternal Coaching, Good Guy" figure that runs a clean program by many including the fraternity of AAC coaches. No way the Administration pays the buyout now IMO. If UC just happens to win their last 2 games and finish 8-5 (including his first bowl game) you can darn book it that he won't be gone next year. Again, I don't wish ill will on TT but I am ready to move on with a younger, hungrier, talented HC.

I can see Gran moving on to a HC position. He interviewed for one or two jobs last year I believe and there are plenty of openings actual and pending after this season. His offense's stats have gaudy, drool in the corner of the mouth, appetite wettening, appeal even though the red zone efficiency not so much. That alone will have a strong appeal to many schools who want their teams to score points and be more dynamic on offense in the changing landscape of more wide open college football. Who replaces Gran if he does move on will be a big question.

I think Clinks remains and I actually believe he's done a fair to midland job this year with the defense while learning on the job in many respects. I will never forget the steaming pile dee from last year despite the late season improvement against weaker teams. He has a lot of young, talented players that you have to believe will improve as a unit next year.

The A-Bomb goes off for the GA special teams coach/es. That is where the "fall guy" comes in and we will hear the "this is where we've got to get better, be smarter, got to improve as a team, limit mistakes that put us into bad positions," etc., rhetoric. Can we pay someone with a little bit of experience in this area?

Bottom line is next year I anticipate a similar season in terms of not winning the AAC and beating up the conference bottom feeders. The problem is, there are fewer bottom feeders since other teams in the conference are improving and we seem to be wading in the shallows of mediocrity or even sinking. Alas, Year 4 must be endured but how many butts in the seats will fill Nippert next year? How well will UC fans travel for road games? How much more of the vocal demand for a new HC will reach the higher ups? Will we ever win a bowl game under TT? Time and patience (or lack thereof) will tell.

2016 looks rather challenging at this time:
UT Martin
@ Purdue
Miami (OH)
BYU
American home games: East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, USF
American road games: UCF, UConn, Temple, Tulsa

Could be staring at 6-6 next year. 03-weeping

For as bad as this team has looked as of late, we were dominating BYU on the road for the entire first half. I wouldn't be suprised to see a strong start considering that schedule.

I don't disagree with your assessment of Coach Clinkscale: Fair-to-middling is an accurate description, IMO. Not only is the defensive unit "young," but he is also an inexperienced DC...he needs time to mature. So, I'd give him a "C" with an incomplete final.

It's just that at Auburn and TT, Tuberville tended to go through A LOT of DC's and tended to fire them and put the blame on them. That's why I think Clinkscale's going to feel the heat...even if it's undeserved.

As for Gran...I think he should have gone when the getting was good. That window has closed for now. He could probably swing a low-level hire, but the choice jobs are going to be hard to get this year...though the carousel looks to be spinning fast now.

I would love to see it, but Tubs hasn't started strong yet.

The interesting thing about next year is we get to see what Year 4 of a program looks like for the first time since 1997. Maybe Tubs is playing a long game, and he'll light on fire next year? I hope so. It's all we can do, because so far it's been disappointing.

The window is far from closed for Gran, UC offense is in the top 10 in many categories. Even if he doesn't get a top gig he could back fill at a sun belt, mac, etc school that has a coach move up.

RE: End of the (Regular) Season
UC had poor weather for many of its home games this season. With next year's reasonably attractive home schedule, I think we will average 35000 or more, especially if we get off to a decent start. The AAC East should be decent next year. Expect Temple to be good again and UConn and USF continuing to improve. Hope That not many season ticket holders give up their tickets due to dissatisfaction with Tubs and the better performance of the Bengals.
