That may be true, but it won't be at home with your current 1st backup (Graham), but would be away from home riding on your true frosh! Depending on how well your new QB operates in the MACC -- I would expect to desire playing a mid-range Sun Belt team to avoid a bowl loss.

The GA Southern who killed WMU? No thanks, there is zero upside to playing them or Appy St. They are good teams but not an interesting match up for the media to talk about outside of 30min before the game.

Playing Boise St in the Poinsettia or an AAC team in Boca will at least get some ears to perk up and look in on NIU even if we do lose...because the excuse of playing our 4th string true FR QB is rather easy.

Also a better chance of getting blown out by Boise or an AAC team. Like what what happened last year in Boca. That not only lowers our stature, but also the perception of the MAC.

No thanks. I'll take the better chance of a bowl win, regardless of the opponent. What sticks in my mind are losses in the last 3 bowl games we've played in. It's time for a win!

RE: Bowl Scenerios For NIU
Georgia Southern runs an option offense. They got blown out by Navy last season, lost 44 - 0 to West Virgina this season and also got blown out by Appalachian State. I am sure they are a good team but I wonder if some of their success thus far is due to teams not being able to matchup with their option offense. I would assume WMU did not have the right game plan / personnel going in and with multiple weeks to prepare whoever plays them will be much more ready for it. That said, I really hope NIU is not selected for Mobile this year. Georgia Southern doesn't really move the excitement needle for me. If the bowl matchup is going to be with an option team, then I would rather see Navy or Air Force.

Navy is not an option. They are going to the Military Bowl vs an ACC school.

Air Force was only wanted by the Poinsettia Bowl if Boise St to Vegas (BYU to Hawaii). Poinsettia really wants Boise St.

I know. My point is if you have to play an option team then I would rather it be a service academy. Playing the Sun Belt #3 team that runs an option offense and has only been in FBS two years doesn't seem that appealing. Regardless of what happens Friday, I don't think either BG or NIU should be sent to Mobile unless they want it. The Go Daddy has been gradually drifting down hill from a matchup stand point the last few years and the MAC shouldn't be sending a top team to that game unless it's against the Sun Belt champion. If the Sun Belt is going to send it's #3 team, then why should the MAC send it's champ or #2 to play them.

NIU is the MAC West champ and just had a record eight First Team All-MAC players named. It sucks that it is down to the 5th string, walkon QB but there is still a ton of talent on the team. Take the best opponent possible. Boise in San Diego or UConn in Boca would be a great game.

RE: Bowl Scenerios For NIU
USF is headed to the Miami Bowl per McMurphy

Here are the remaining AAC teams who could play in Boca.
Houston/Temple loser
Memphis
UCONN
UC
Tulsa

Here are the remaining AAC bowls.
BBVA Compass Bowl, Birmingham, Ala. – vs. SEC
Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Fla. – vs. Conference USA
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, Hawaii – vs. Mountain West
Boca Raton Bowl, Boca Raton, Fla. – vs. MAC
Cure Bowl, Orlando, Fla. - vs. Sun Belt

Just found this...
http://theamerican.org/sports/2014/4/21/...43412.aspx

Beyond the access to the College Football Playoff, bowl affiliations from the 2014 to 2019 seasons are as follows. The first five bowls listed will be part of a pool from which the Conference will place its teams. Bowl games will be placed based on best fit for the Conference and its membership.

2015 Season

Birmingham Bowl
Birmingham, Ala. – vs. SEC

St. Petersburg Bowl
St. Petersburg, Fla. – vs. Conference USA

Miami Beach Bowl
Miami, Fla. – vs. Conference USA

Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
Annapolis, Md. – vs. ACC

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Honolulu, Hawaii – vs. Mountain West

Marmot Boca Raton Bowl
Boca Raton, Fla. – vs. MAC

AutoNation Cure Bowl
Orlando, Fla. – vs. Sun Belt

So basically, with the AAC champ going to the Access bowl, the Boca bowl will have a pick between the #7 and #8 AAC team...or team with the #7/#8 fanbase/TV draw. Looking at the actual TV numbers UCONN's ratings did better than UC.

After reviewing those numbers I almost am thinking that Cincinnati will be the AAC team in the Boca Bowl.

I don't want a guaranteed win. I want a fun match up. I want to care about the game. I want another horse scalp.

Agreed long gone are the days of Marshall and ECU playing in mobile.

Same. The value of winning a bowl game in itself is zero anyway. It only matters if you beat a good team...just like any other week during the season

The general public would only care if NIU won a major bowl anyways.

Well, maybe two or three. My guess is they'd discredit one.

How's that setting things up for next Friday????

That seemed a little too easy. Nice opponent, albeit about two-three years too late. They are having a "down" year, as well. Certainly, we will be a hefty underdog without Hare and Graham, but at the very least, should get the most free publicity of all conference schools as we are playing a "name" program.
