It was good coverage on Tarrant, maybe Dedric should have attempted to pass it Tarrant quickly but he didnt

I am not certain, but that looked like the design of the play. The guards were at the elbows and took off down the court while Shaq broke back to the ball, caught the in-bound and gave it back to Lawson. Who knows, but it looked to me to have been designed as it was run.

You have to get Tarrant the ball in that situation. Dedric not fast with ball. Set a double pick from foul line to baseline center side with quick inbounds.
Bad call on JP there.

He almost lost game when he had Boddie, Martin, Jake, Dedric and Burrell; OSU went on 10-2 run in about 2 minutes. I really think JP did not think through the the consequences of that lineup.

An ugly win but I will take any win.

When the guards took off from the elbow, I thought Shaq and Tarrant both came up and did an x-cross thing that looked intended to pick defenders. The execution looked a little off, though, and maybe Tarrant didn't end up as open as Shaq and inbounds time was almost up so the pass went to Shaq. Hard to say without being in the huddle, but it seemed like a good play. If it wasn't Tarrant, there was somebody else there with Shaq running back. It was like they almost bumped each other instead of a clean pick, though.

Shaq and effort go together.
Shaq and execution do not go together.

So why have Shaq setting the pick to get your best ball handler and 80%+ FT shooter the ball?

I'll take a win over a P5 team anytime, but we'll have to disagree on the "good coach" part. ANY coach who runs straight man-to-man on Memphis either:

A) has no video coordinator,
B) hasn't taught his team zone defenses, or
C) is just plain dumb.

Yeah, I guess having your big man set a pick is some crazy idea that only a clueless coach would try...

Or maybe you'd prefer Dedric, our freshman that could still be a high-schooler take the job over the experienced senior that is used regularly for setting picks on guards on the perimeter.

I don't think the play was the problem. I think that play ends better either if Shaq passes to Tarrant instead of Dedric, or Dedric doesn't decide to go 1-on-1 and get another turnover.

Fun fact: In five games, tigers have made 120 of 171 free throws for 70%. Tiger opponents have shot 53 of 87 for 61%. Tigers averaging 17 more free throw attempts per game.

Tarrant is making a huge difference. 37/40 from the line.

Without Tarrant aren't we 83/131? That's just under 64%. So the game plan is clear, let Tarrant drive.
