At least Cal waited till the AFTER the season was over before he met with UK and accepted the job almost a week later. Fuente had to have some kind of meeting or go between during the season for him to be named the new coach at VPI Saturday. Neither were honorable in their actions. Cal by lying about a new job offer and Fuente for exploring a new job during the season.

Well, if he told the admin what was going on, at least we got a jump on finding a replacement early enough to help continuity?

Did I miss the announcement of the announcement?

VT loses and the announcement will be made this weekend. If they win they become bowl eligible and announcement will be made after the bowl game. Either way if he is gone i do not want him coaching our team in bowl game.

Beamer has already announced. They won't wait until after a bowl game to introduce Fuente.

Well he is gone. I just hope we don't have a lot of players transfer out. I don't want to lose Brady Davis, Jamarius Henderson, Jared Gentry, or Jae'lon Oglesby. You can build a solid future around those guys.

Ticket has been punched but I still love this guy. Perhaps the best football coach Memphis has ever had.

I struggle making this declaration. Amazing turnaround and maybe he wins by default b/c our program hasn't had much success in the past. The lack of longevity and crummy end to this season gives me pause though.

We have major corporate leadership, a great AD and President, and there is little reason to think this is now over. There is a QB on that campus who can play the position. Returning players for next year. We had a solid committee get the coach before and that was when this job sucked. It no longer is that same job. While this is a big year for Bowen since he will have to hire two coach's, I have no trepidation about it. When someone gets hired and leaves the job better off than when he got there you need to salute them and move on.

Amen.

Great summary on Fuente's tenure, what he did in resurrecting the program, and the continuing promise for the future of TIGER football.

Season is not over yet. Perhaps Bowen will call the plays for our bowl game. I read in his bio he has coaching experience, and I saw an AD do that once in a bowl game.

Even if we didn't win, it would be entertaining, and if we did...well, a good time could be had by all.

It would be beyond epoch if we played and beat Auburn in the Birmingham bowl with Bowen calling the plays. My wife and inlaws are Auburn fans. I could feast on that for years. I'm still getting mileage out of Memphis all-time record against Auburn. 03-lmfao

Me, too, but I'd hate to put our perfection on the line. If we play Auburn, we better win, but I dont see us doing so with our recent deflated performance.
