Navy AD Gladchuk returns to Houston
In July 1997, Houston hired Chet Gladchuk from Boston College. At the time, Houston was splitting games between the Dome and Robertson Stadium. In 1998 under Gladchuk, Robertson became the full time home for Cougar football.

When Chet arrived:

1. Robertson had a track.
2. Robertson used a hand-me-down scoreboard from the pre-Zone era at Kyle Field.
3. The team used a tent in the South Endzone as a locker room.
4. There was a 25' high chain link fence with barb wire on top surrounding the stadium.
5. There were no luxury boxes.
6. The areas underneath the grandstands were unpaved dirt.

We've come a long way baby! Chet left in 2001 for Navy. He'll be amazed at our progress.

Chet had his faults and made mistakes. But the money he raised from John O'Quinn, Ken Bailey and others to turn Robertson into a nice little campus stadium by the 1999 opener is one of the key turning points in Cougar program history.

Recruiting was also horribly insane, couldn't interest no one to visit but somehow we manage putting together good enough teams... Definitely hard times.

We can blame the hired bleacher company for that mess.

Gladhuck tried to hire Bob Pruett from Marshall to replace Kim Helton, but that didn't work out (thank God, since Marshall got put on probation not long after). He then went into panic mode and hired the worst coach in Cougar Football history, Dana Dimel, the coach who gave UH it's only winless season. Dimel finished his time at UH with a record of 8-26.

To show how bad Dimel was, after one of his many losses, he was quoted saying "we did well in everything except offense, defense, and special teams".

We're pretty happy in that regard...obviously Johnson and Niumat, but kept assistants that Johnson wanted to take with him, Penn State's MBB coach, Maryland's national champ WLax...you might get mixed opinions on MLax coach...
