Is the CFP Poll released too early?
LSU was #2 in the original poll. Now they aren't even in the Top 25, and we have two more CFP Polls to go?

Makes the committee look like idiots.

Should the first CFP Poll be pushed back to the week before Thanksgiving?

It doesn't make them look like idiots. It is not a prediction poll it is simply a grading poll of what teams have done up to that point. It is done purely to stir up conversation and attention upon college football. The Committee does their job well.

I would at least move it back one more week. There's no reason to do it 6 times. They end up flopping all over the place and look like idiots trying to justify the moves using contradictory explanations to those they used the week before.

They only look like idiots because fans aren't acclimatized to the fact that the CFP rankings don't operate like polls. In some cases I think the committee members forget this as well. Only one team should get weekly carry-over consideration; the previous years CFP winner. If they are undefeated when the following seasons rankings are released then that team should be in the top 4.

Its just practice for when the real rankings come out at the end of the season. You want the committee to go through the process at least a few times so that they are a fine-tuned machine by the end.

By the last week, they should be familiar with all the arguments and criteria. It is also good to release these rankings to the public to see how their rankings hold up to public scrutiny and they can get used to that part too.

But yeah, until they sort out their thought process, I would almost prefer the media keep using the AP polls during the season.

No, they look like idiots because they use contradictory arguments week to week to support what they did.

The most important factor to them seems to be the eyeball test. And you can't justify that rationally. They definitely have a strong recency bias (but polls do also).

Big mistake having Osborne and Alvarez both.

What difference does it make. They are going to pick whoever they want regardless of who really is the top 4. If they want it to be fair, use computers or Las Vegas. They won't play favorites.

Exactly...there's no rhyme or reason.

Is there anyone that wasn't shocked that Oklahoma rose up to #3?

College football needs to move away from rankings in general...the qualifications for a playoff need to revolve around conference championships....

They hurt the credibility of the process trying to explain their flip-flopping. And the extra weeks doing it biases the results. You can't help but feel some conscious or subconscious tie to those previous opinions you have publically stated.

One clear mistake they appear to make is continuing to give credit for a "big win" over a team who proved to be a flop. The later you start, the more realistic an appraisal of those wins you get.

Its useful to do it more than once. But they have already decided 7 didn't make sense. They should reduce it to 3 to 5 times.

I was surprised, but not shocked. I was more surprised when they moved OU up so much after beating Baylor who they really didn't give a lot of credit to.

RE: Is the CFP Poll released too early?
I disagree they are releasing rankings too early

They should start after week 6 since they are the real rankings and not the AP/Coaches poll. Once the committees rankings come out the replace the other sources.

I think they should start their ranking after the conference champions are decided.

Don't you think the committee will be under pressure if their rankings are upside down from the media polls and wham they hit you over the head with them?
