I don't think it's that crazy of a dream at all. He has some impressive skill for a young guy. Once he gets that jump hook down, he'll be difficult for anyone to stop.

Maybe on a really good night. Can't imagine he'd quite be 13 of 14 shooting against decent D1 teams on a regular basis.

Also, Bond isn't looking to be quite the superstar we were expecting with another low scoring night with only 9 points. But Steve would be happy with the 9 assists to only 2 turnovers he had

RE: Game Day: Marygrove
great to be back at the convo. it's like a old shoe, except it's new and empty. but i love it. anyway...

it seemed like Murphy was trying out a few things today, presumably due to the weak competition and the lack of Lee & Toney. Bond started out as the primary ball handler, but his running of the offense was limited to running the three man weave. i think this was a stop-gap as opposed to testing out Bond's ability to run the point. there was only one 3 taken in the first half, and i wonder if Murphy told them to hold off on threes and concentrate on getting the ball inside.

the defense wasn't lazy or uncaring in the first half, but it also wasn't effective. Marygrove made some good passes, but the defense also seemed out of sync. i was relieved to see the defense come out on fire in the second half. hopefully the first half was a temporary thing. i agree with everyone talking about the funny zone. the two baseline wings of the traditional 2-3 are being asked to do a lot. this was the case last year to a certain extent, but it seemed even more exaggerated. Nazione, Bond and Price were all going from a trap above the extended free throw line directly to a shooter in the corner. there are very few guys in college, and almost none in the MAC, that are fast enough to pull this off. there will be a lot of open corner threes if this keeps happening.

Thompson was the most exciting revelation. he's everything we wanted from Riley. he used his size to bully the opposition on both sides of the court, he rebounded, he was vocal on defense and he showed good court awareness. i loved seeing him out there.

Mangum is like a bulky Combs who seems to have more trust from Murphy. he doesn't seem to love passing, which i think makes him better served in a reserve role.

this team has more guys who can drive to the hoop than any EMU team i can remember. Mangum, Lee, Alvano, Toney (from what i've heard), and Bond (to a lesser extent). I love Bond, but i don't see his role in the halfcourt offense yet. luckily, he's so great on the break with outlet passes and finishing that he can still make a nice contribution on offense.

i'm curious about the plan for Stone this year. there are two guards out and Murphy didn't even put him in the first time that he cleared the bench. if that's the case, what will happen when Toney & Lee are back? i don't expect to see him much this year. I don't even expect Alvano much this year unless there are injuries, which is a bummer, because i love the Perry/Alvano combo on defense.

i'm pumped to have another home game coming up so quickly, but i share everyone's frustration that it's against an exhibition-level opponent.

happy thanksgiving y'all.

I thought Bond played well. We didn't need him to score. The offense was, essentially, "get the ball to Thompson or Nazione in the post". I like that a lot more than settling for contested jumpers, especially when they went a combined 20/21 from the field. Not too shabby.

Bond looked like a point guard today. I understand the competition was vastly inferior to what we will see in conference, but we did the basic stuff very well today. Not always the case, even against these teams.

Whew, glad it's only a minor injury for Toney. I've been very happy with his play this year and look forward to a Toney/Lee starting backcourt.

I also like that Jodan Price has been more assertive this year. The shots aren't always falling, but he's not settling for off balance threes anymore. I didn't think he had much of a dribble game, but he's attacked the basket a bit. He'll be a key piece for us off the bench.

Yeah, even if he still doesn't score much more, he draws a lot of attention from the defense this way.

I loved the stretch, what midway through the 2nd half, when the regulars came back in and Bond completely sped up the game, moving the ball down the court really well and getting the flow going.

I want to see what this team looks like with Lee in there. Lee and Mangum aren't exactly carbon copies of each other... even though we kind of treat them that way.

As someone mentioned, Toney did not play yesterday, so we did not play our entire starting back court yesterday.

So Tuesday we'll see the REAL 2015/16 EMU men's basketball team.

Has Lee been practicing with the team? The press release didn't specify if he could participate in team activities. Anyone have info on this?

Believe it has been stated that he is practicing with the team.

I'll look to see if there is any webcasting for the NE-Omaha game.

Of the games so far this year, Vermont was obviously our 'first look'.

NE-Omaha will be our first with the entire team. That is my 2nd most important game to date.

RE: Game Day: Marygrove
It is a little early for a NE-Omaha thread, but has ANYONE looked at their schedule to date?

They are 3 - 2 with a 5 point loss to Colorado and a 1 point loss to UC-Santa Barbara.

Two wins were over D-I teams, No. Colorado and UMKC.

They look like mid-pack Summit League, in there with IUPUI, IPFW, Denver, S. Dakota, etc.

This game should not be thought of as a D-II type opponent. They are in the same class as IUPUI, IPFW, etc.

It's gone i don't know what they did with it. I would have gotten one but the sections were just to big.
