Big time get for Maryland and the B1G East Division.

Feel bad for Miss. State though as they are likely not to be heard from again. I liked watching them trying to pull off an upset win and last season and this season they have become one of the better 25 teams in the country. As they saying goes, nothing lasts forever.

That seems like a downgrade to me.

I have read the article. It EXPLICITLY says this is NOT a done deal. There is chatter but that is all.

His name is being thrown out as a serious candidate at Virginia Tech too, which is a much better job IMO

VA Tech is hiring the Memphis coach.

He's a great coach and Miss. State will have a hard time holding on to him long term.

I would think Maryland would be a lateral at best. But, there are plenty of other reasons he may choose to make that move.

I want him to return back to ND as a head coach some day. He started out as a grad assistant there.

As long as he is getting paid more money there, it is an upward move for him. In terms of success? With the rise of Ole Miss, its just all that much less likely that he achieves any great success in the SEC West. He is a northerner, he is returning home so to speak in similar fashion to Meyer.

I imagine that unless you were born and raised in all of that crazy down South, its not an atmosphere that you want to stay in long term. Some may acclimate themselves to it, some may not.

People are seeming to have a very simplistic perspective on this.

PSU is in the process of building from young talent upward. When they get things rebuilt it will be a big slugfest in that division.

First thing we have to wait for is Mullen to sign the papers.

I'm sure his wife would appreciate to move to a larger metro/populated area so she can restart her career and enjoy life more. There is nothing down there in MS for her.

It would be a great move for Mullen to make.

Has Mullen's wife commented on her life in Starkville?

If I'm Mullen, I'd wait on a better than average position to open up. Maryland is another 'have not' in their conference.

Mullen is a great coach to have gotten Mississippi State as far as it has when they're going up against the rest of the SEC. UMD isn't that much of an upgrade, although it would be interesting seeing him go at it against his mentor and former boss, Urban. I'd wait for a better opening personally, there's plenty out there this year.
