100% agree---near the end of the first half, calls timeout to get the ball back. Gets the ball and runs twice into the line--and instead of trying to score, actually Ohio gets the ball back (good use of timeouts) and throws a Hail Mary into the endzone.
Then, in the third qtr with 5 minutes left, calls timeout on a fourth and 1 at the 45. Coaches that are well prepared would have a fourth and 1 play already chosen and not have to use a timeout there. All the timeout does is let the other team know you are going for it and allow them to set their defensive scheme.
Yes, I know that we got the first down, but that is not the point. The point is that we wasted a timeout, near midfield, with 20 minutes left in the game. Certainly hindsight, but that timeout could have come in handy later in the game. And, it is something that I questioned when it happened.
Again, two horrible uses of timeouts and clock management. This is habitual with this staff.
I will certainly never question some scheme stuff and even personnel usage because the staff certainly is much more in tune than any of us. However, simple football things, like clock counting, application of two point conversion stuff, is common fan stuff and I firmly believe that we botch these things continually.
