If true, Here's a Salute for Those Coaches.

Also, if I'm Bud Foster, I tender my resignation immediately.

If I am ANY coach taking over in Blacksburg, I want Bud Foster out of there asap. It would be difficult to "take control" with Foster still on the staff.

(I'd be very happy if this is the guy)

What is Bud going to do?

Had a VT guy tell me Fuente will get 3.5 million and Bud will remain as defensive coordinator for 1.5 million. Guess we'll see if he knows what he's talking about.

Is Bud really worth 1.5million to retain??? I know he is a good DC, but that would have to make him one of the most high paid DC or the highest paid in the country. Well if true congrats on the great hire.

Bud signed a 5 year contract for $900,000 a year last winter. I doubt that they offered him another $600,000 a year since he is already under contract

Twice Bud was made the highest paid coordinator in college football but that was before coordinators salaries went through the roof.

The cult of Bud is strong in the New River Basin - I can't recall a more popular assistant coach in ACC football. IIRC he should have enough time in the State of Va and VT retirement system to retire with 30 years and collect his pension.

I'd just like to point out the difference between how VT handled this hire and how Clemson handled theirs.

Bowden fired. Dabo made interim coach. Dabo loses a close one to GT at home then wins out. Dabo made head coach.

Beamer resigns. Beamer lame ducks out the rest of the year. VT hires outside the program. Almost certainly chases Bud Foster away as a result.

I'm not picking specifically on VT here. I think most programs behave like VT does. But I think Clemson makes a compelling case for hiring from within.

It's looking like Bud Foster may end up being the new head coach at Illinois.

I don't think Clemson is a model anyone should try to duplicate. Hiring an assistant off of a fired staff is a recipe for disaster. They got very lucky with Dabo.

Sources say Bud is staying on as DC. If that is the case, then VT may be back quicker than we expected.

I'm ecstatic about this. Fuente + we're keeping Bud Foster. This is the best case scenario come true

According to ESPN we're keeping Shane Beamer too. He was a great recruiter at South Carolina. I'm not sold on his running backs coaching skills.

Hopefully Shane can be as prolific a recruiter for Fuente as he was for Spurrier.
