Nick's Picks - Final Week
After going just 3-3 last week I currently I stand at 73-25 (75%); by and large not a good season compared to years past.

Due to extensive work and personal travel over the upcoming holidays this will be my last Nicks Picks grouping. I certainly will be rooting for all MAC teams in their bowl games.

I wish everyone on this forum a very happy and safe Thanksgiving season.

Here we go...

BG 41 - Ball St 23
The Falcons will be taking this game seriously since they did not play well against Toledo and certainly do not want to come out flat and unprepared in the MACC. I look for the Falcons to come out strong, build a big lead, then sub more freely in the second half with the Cards making the game a little closer in the 4th period even though the final outcome will be known.

NIU 24 - Ohio 20
All NIU seems to do over the past few seasons is win championships and I see this game nothing more than a game that may be closer than expected but the ultimate outcome will be the same. NIU just seems to own November MAC games. I do expect OU to be very competitive right until the end of the game.

Toledo 35 - Western 30
Nothing comes easy for the Rockets and I don't see this game as a cakewalk, in fact, I think Western will push UT right until the final gun.

Akron 28 - Kent St 13
I was very impressed with the Zips victory over Buffalo last week and they seem determined to get to a respectable 7-5 season earning a rare bowl bid for the program.

Central 38 - Eastern 14
Eastern tends to play their directional Michigan MAC counterparts very competitive but I see Central having very little trouble in this contest.

Buffalo 37 - UMass 28
UB should get to bowl eligibility even though I don't believe they'll end up in the bowl system while UMass will limp out of the league as the season's most disappointing team in 2015.

==================================

Additional Picks (or at least how I pick)
Coach of the year: Central's John Bonamego
Offensive POY: BG QB Matt Johnson
Defensive POY: NIU DB Shawun Lurry
Frosh POY: Ball State QB Riley Neal

RE: Nick's Picks - Final Week
My November picks haven't been very good, it's always difficult this time of year with so many mid-week games and the ever unknowing "want too" of the players in these games. Hopefully my final four picks of the week this Friday will be more on-target.

Nick's Pick: BG 41 - Ball St 23
Actual Score: BG 48 - Ball State 10
Initial Comment: The Falcons will be taking this game seriously since they did not play well against Toledo and certainly do not want to come out flat and unprepared in the MACC. I look for the Falcons to come out strong, build a big lead, then sub more freely in the second half with the Cards making the game a little closer in the 4th period even though the final outcome will be known.
Final Thought: As expected BG jumped way out and never looked back, what was a surprise to me is that Ball State never made a little run in the 4th quarter to make the final score look a little better. BG certainly looks ready for the MACC.

Nick's Pick: NIU 24 - Ohio 20
Actual Score: Ohio 26 - NIU 21
Initial Comment: All NIU seems to do over the past few seasons is win championships and I see this game nothing more than a game that may be closer than expected but the ultimate outcome will be the same. NIU just seems to own November MAC games. I do expect OU to be very competitive right until the end of the game.
Final Thought: Everything worked out as predicted other than the final score. I was watching the game last night and thought NIU would certainly get the onside kick, find a way to score a last second TD, and pull away to a 27-26 victory. That didn't happen. Credit Ohio for playing the Ohio they really are and not like the late October meltdown team they looked like...with some added health these Bobcats could really represent the MAC well in whatever bowl game they end up at.

==================================

There is a real chance at 77 teams with 6 wins this year. Three 5-7's would go. How does 6-6 UB not go in that instance.

There would have to be some very big upsets to get over 80 teams.

Personally I agree with you Bull, but each year it seems like at least one MAC team gets hosed and some sort "special rules" are announced at the most inopportune time and I fully expect that to happen again. The fact that there is even talk of 5-7 teams from Power Five conferences being considered as possible bowl exception participants is a total joke.

I hope I'm wrong on this and UB does get a bowl at 6-6 and then thumps somebody.

RE: Nick's Picks - Final Week
They just announced a contingency plan a year or 2 ago. Every 6-6 team will have priority over a 5-7 team. The only time they don't is if it's a team like GaTech who a few years ago went 6-7 because they lost the ACCCG. In that case they are correect because you cant penalize a 6-6 team for playing in a CG. I think it happened to UCLA a few years back as well.

yes you can penalize a 6-6 team for playing in a conference championship game, and you should. GaTech in 2012 is the perfect example. In July of 2012 the NCAA rules committee met and specifically addressed this subject. Their ruling was that 6-7 teams would not be eligible for a bowl, period.

4 months later GaTech is 6-6 and gets into the conference title game because the top 2 teams in their division are both ineligible due to NCAA violations. A win not only gives them a conference championship but it also puts them in a BCS Bowl game with a MAC team. What a gift! And all they had to do is go out and put it all on the line.

But no, GaTech throws a fit and demands that they get a bowl game even if they lose, before the championship game is even played. The NCAA caves, of course, and a 6-7 GaTech gets a bowl, and pushes out an 8-4 MTSU that beat GaTech by 21pts at GaTech during the regular season. Total garbage.

Go big, or go home.

One year Miami went to the MACC with a 6-6 record and lost to CMU and did not get a bowl game despite winning the East.

I'll pick CMU over EMU, but I think EMU will score much, much more than 14 points.

The EMU OL had been a walking wounded outfit which really killed the offense.

EMU was off last week and the minor injuries should be healed. The game notes shows the entire offense intact, including the entire OL.

http://www.emueagles.com/documents/2015/...df?id=4066

I'll go CMU 45 EMU 28. Seventy three points for some good MACtion. Boys and girls in Vegas take the over...

I'm going with Toledo 38 WMU 17. With UT now thrown back in the championship mix, they'll take care of business. And we haven't beaten Toledo since 2008. Anyone in Vegas should be jumping on that Toledo -8 line.

This should be a GOOD game. What I like, beyond the importance to UT, is that both teams are rested.

Teams which have say 9 or 10 days between games should play better than teams with 7 (or less).

I'm fascinated to see how EMU plays, last game of the season, but coming off a bye week.

Late in the season, it is all about being healthy, rested and emotionally hungry.

I think that has been fixed, although I doubt we'll ever see that one again (6 - 6 team in the MACC).

After that, the MAC decided to protect both division winners with automatic bowl bids.

EMU certainly was taking the game more seriously than the CMU team for most of the first half. 03-banghead Congrats to your coaches for getting a 1-10 team motivated for a black Friday game. Not easy! Glad we won, but it was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

For the first time in a long time the emu folks are looking forward to next season. They only lose 5 starters to graduation and return about 8-10 defensive players that missed all or most of this season to injury.
