It figures this happens the year after Temple misses a bowl game.......

The world won't end if a 5 win team plays in a 'bowl' game. These ain't the Super Bowl, outside the New Years 6 (and a few others) they are just small exhibition games for the players and fans to enjoy.

I think they'll get to 80. A lot of the underdogs are not big underdogs, and could easily win.

In all seriousness, that game would get higher ratings/attendance than a lot of the bowl games that will actually take place. If the alternative is a 5-7-vs.-5-7 match-up, why the hell not?

They may start inviting FCS teams not in the playoffs

Nope. You will see 5-7 P5 teams as the first choices

Then don't go...

Some of us love to travel to interesting cities to watch our team play.

Miami and New Orleans were freaking great!

So don't go....

I'll never understand how your world is somehow adversely affected by a couple 6-6 teams playing in the Bahamas.

Fans need to understand it's not about them...it's about the players and coaches

The market will dictate when there are too many bowls.

I think it already has. A lot of teams lose money going to bowls.

But at this point it's still worth it for them to spend that money and go... at some point, probably soon, schools will start turning down bowls where the cost can't be justified.

That will never happen in academia. 99% are run by ultra, left-wing liberals who couldn't give a **** less about the financials. That's why we're all spending like drunken sailors right now in a dick measuring contest. The bowls are just another symptom of their stupidity and ESPN taking full advantage of it.

RE: Currently only 71 bowl teams for 80 slots
They're spending boatloads on promoting their universities because they know that the college degree (outside of fields like law, medicine, engineering, etc) is not worth the price and enrollments are going to plummet as soon as the American public recognizes this fact. And athletics is one of the best marketing tools a school has, so it's worth a few hundred thousand to go to a bowl and get a 4 hour long commercial for your school on ESPN.

They don't want to be among the schools shutting down in the next 10-20 years, so they are in the arms race now.
