Some others have done it but not sure if they enforce the ban.

I've always thought I have a pretty good knowledge of geography and I have to admit, I don't think I've ever heard of Gambia before today.

So wherever it is on the map, congratulations on entering the 19th century.

Quote:"It's a central African problem," Aslan said. "Eritrea has almost 90 percent female genital mutilation. It's a Christian country. Ethiopia has 75 percent female genital mutilation. It's a Christian country. Nowhere else in the Muslim, Muslim-majority states is female genital mutilation an issue."

Quote:Our ruling

Aslan rejected Maher’s characterization of female genital mutilation as an Islamic problem, saying instead that it’s actually "a central African problem."

Due to immigration, the term "central African" may be too restrictive, but his larger point -- that this is not a problem in only Muslim countries -- is valid. Countries with majority-Christian populations also carry out this practice, while Islamic-majority countries like Iraq and Yemen have rates on the lower side.

We rate Aslan’s claim Mostly True.

Yeah, female mutilation is a cultural thing, not an Islamic thing.

Couple things:

1) Eritrea is virtually split 50/50. Hardly a "Christian Country." Nice try, though.

2) Claiming that it's a "central African" problem is obviously racist against blacks and their culture. You should attend a cultural relativism seminar, check your privilege, and stop judging others.

In fairness, it's illegal in a lot of those countries even though there isn't an expressly worded ban.
