No def head coach please.

We need gunslingers.

Throwing lots of passes is more important than winning? Maybe so - worked that way for Stobart.

Stobart's nickname was ground chuck there papaw

I think that was Papaw's point child.

Said this in another thread but Matt Campbell is the guy if we could get him. He's the next big deal. Already a proven winner every where he's been at every level. He probably wouldn't be here too long but if even 4 yrs, our university would continue to move up. He's destined for a major B1G job at some point but I'd love to have him here as his next step & he could get a major pay boost here without the risk & pressure a good P5 job would present at this time.

RE: Thoughts on coaching search ...
Just remember, Eastman & Beaudine Management Consultants of Plano, Texas is pretty much the best in the business. Head hunters like them give you a lot of options and in these cases, you find great talent that is "under everyone's radar". The whole idea is to find the best person, so you increase the size of your net. Many talented people like Fuente and Bowen, do not put their names out there in the public as seeking a new opportunity for obvious reasons. So far, we have benefited greatly from their work and connections. I am more concerned about "the process" than throwing out names when there are a lot of names that no one on here knows about that are Eastman & Beaudine connections.

Why on God's green earth would Briles leave his dad's program ( a better program at that) for the same position at Memphis??

Nothing against Odom, but we need to get an offensive minded coach who knows how to spread the field and let it fly.

Sonny Cumbie joined the TCU football staff as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in December 2013.

Sonny sounds a lot like the start that coach FU had. duhhh

You want a young offense minded coach . Look at ole Sonny

Boise, Houston, and to some extent Cincinnati have managed to make 3 good replacement hires in a row. Most schools don't get it right and go down the toilet. Even a school like Alabama can get mired in 5-7 / 6-6 seasons with a bad hire and they have every resource available to make the RIGHT hire.

It'll be nothing but a crap shoot and we'll have to be lucky to hit another home run.

The first name to strike off the list is Kiffen. He would be an embarrassment and would do more damage than good. I would never attend a Tiger game while he was the coach.

please explain

He'll say something about him being a "clown"...etc etc etc. Kiffin would be a "home run" hire.

Yeah, he was great at UT. Very loyal and such an upright citizen. We have had no issues with the NCAA in the past so they would overlook his "mistakes" in the recruiting process. We really need him.

At a non P5 school, I think you almost have to go OC in your hire, but there are some exceptions - Long at SDSU for one.

I keep hearing this. Folks read it and regurgitate it. Just hire a good coach. TCU and Utah both hired defensive guys who helped them get invited to P5 conferences.

I'm cool with whomever we hire. I tend to trust the big fishes. With that said, Lincoln Riley is interesting choice IMO. The ECU folks loved him and OK is doing okay this year.

Coach Clark has the ability to identify and recruit players that sometimes are overlooked by other schools.

he's too dug in and invested at UAB. His wife loves it there.

They don't even live in Birmingham. They've kept their house in Piedmont, Alabama, about an hour and 45 minutes away. He has a rental house and commutes.

The wrong hire can be disastrous for ANY program, including the top powerhouses and there are many examples which illustrate that just because a coach was successful at one place, it doesn't mean that he will succeed at the next. For starters, let's make sure that our next coach has at least been a D1 coordinator (Porter was only a position coach) and can speak with reasonable articulation into a microphone.

FWIW, I spoke to a fellow after the game yesterday who said that Odom will be our coach by next week. I don't know who he was, but he spoke with certainty and I got a feeling that he is well-connected. According to him, Missouri is determined to hire a black coach.

Here's another clue. If he was out in the rain with you, he wasn't important or in the know especially about Missouri
