Would be a great replacement. He took over a southern miss program that didn't win a game the season before he got there, has a prolific offense, has established recruiting ties in the Deep South (very important), and has southern miss playing for the conference championship.

Like I said in another thread, I doubt our abilities at this point to snag a HC from a DI program, but he'd be a great choice.

I agree.

I'm a big Todd Monken fan (wanted him at Ole Miss when they fired Nutt) but I don't think he'd take Memphis over, say...Illinois

We could probably snag a Skip Holtz or Mark Hudspeth, but the shine is kinda off of those guys...

Memphis is definitely able to snag from MAC, Sun Belt, or C-USA. Facilities, money, conference, and commitment are far ahead most of those schools.

Babers, Brohm, Monken, Campbell at Toledo, Anderson at A-State...someone will get left out.

And anyway - tons of OCs at P5 schools looking to be a HC.

Ok fine. But assuming money is equal, would you rather take an Iowa State or Illinois job, or Memphis. Particularly if you are confident that a Big 12 invite is coming.

From what I can tell, Fuente makes nearly double of what Monken makes. I understand your point about it being difficult to get a commitment from a current HC, but the money can certainly play a part

I'm not confident the Big 12 is coming & even if it is... Memphis in the Big 12 is probably just as tough as Illinois in the Big 10, at first. At least Illinois is already in a Power 5...no guess work.

I think Coach Fuente will take his time weighing the jobs. As he has said...he has a lot of work and sweat equity in our program. I cannot imagine that he wants another rebuilding project right now at a P5 job unless you could win right away.

VT is in a weak P5 conference and particularly weak division in the conference. Even a rebuilding job at P5 would not be that daunting...

Yep - and we see how big time schools operate as well.

Beamer was a legend at VT, but they "retired" him when they saw a coach they wanted.

If you want a coach from the MAC (and I'm not sure that I do, but if you do), you don't go Babers.
