Game Week CMU
CMU Coach B has beaten cancer which is great news. Darius Jackson can continue to move up the EMU records books, we might be healthy for the first time in along time. Yes a disappointing season but lets hope it ends on a positive.

It sure would be nice to beat CMU, but I'm not expecting a competitive game. It'll be nicer when this season is over. Quite the disappointment after a somewhat hopeful start.

Really random, but...
I was just looking at the stats.....
EMU only has 9 punts returns all season.
That's kind of wild.

Back on topic:
I would love to see Darius Jackson go out with a bang.

How's the health of the OL?

Injuries on the defense are the big story for this season. Losing POC, Harris, Pipkins, spearman, Calderon, Bossard, Zappone, etc exposed the lack of depth. Add in the loss of Hunter Matt and Mike Steals and the defense looks nothing like what we expected last spring.

Anyone know how many of these guys will be getting a redshirt for this season?

'Nickle:

I'll try to check or someone else can, but participation stats are kept and published in the game summaries and I believe game notes.

Two things to keep in mind:

1). The rule for medical redshirt is 25% or less games played (3 games is the max).

2). As has been posted many times, a player has 5 years to play 4. That means a max. of one redshirt year, either by choice or medical. Six year cases are rare and would be two medical redshirt years, supposedly for the same injury. In hoops, Samuels missed two seasons because of the same foot, I believe, hence he got two medical redshirts.

So for a team which redshirts most of its freshmen, a medical redshirt because a N/A event. That is the big drawback for a frosh redshirting, namely, if a kid redshirts and then misses a season because of injury his career is but three years... And worse, if a player redshirts as a frosh, transfer sitout (2nd year), then gets injured (3rd year) and then would have a two season career. Not good.

Here is the list and what I believe to be the case re: med. redshirt eligibility.

http://www.emueagles.com/cumestats.aspx?...&year=2015 & (go to individual game statistics and drill down to the player you wish to check).

E.g., Harris should be eligible for a med redshirt. Ditto Pipkins. Bossard hasn't played at all. Correct? Zappone played too many games. POC, obviously hasn't played at all. Spearman hasn't played at all. Caldreon should be eligible for a med redshirt.

A few (e.g., Bossard, Spearman) have already used their redshirt year.

Does anyone know if Matt and Steals are still part of the program?

Wonder how much better the defense would have been if all of the players I mentioned were available. They definitely would have been better, but the question is how much better?

Hunter Matt will likely be back next year, as I think he had an academics issue this year. I'm pretty sure Steals walked away from football, however.

The defense has a chance to be much better next year with any kind of good health.

Couple starters complete their eligibility but we pick up almost a half dozen starters from injury.

For those looking for a rosy scenario, this is it...

Besides players, we need a better scheme

RE: Game Week CMU
Curious if CMU or EMU or both will not show up ready to play today?

Game means almost nothing to EMU. Okay, except for pride.

CMU is 6 - 5 and shouldn't have any trouble getting a bowl bid with either 6 or 7 wins.

CMU does not need to win today, but a win would be nice. Much better to have 7 wins for bowl consideration.

EMU is coming off a bye and should be well rested and as healthy as they can be for the nagging injuries.

I'm hoping for a healthy EMU OL and a chance to do some scoring and make an interesting game...

From what I was told (from a reliable source), Steals didn't simply walk away. It was off the field issues that caused his demise. I'm glad the season is coming to an end, and with the eternal optimism of an EMU alum and fan, there's always next year. Happy thanksgiving to you all.

I want to get into this subject gingerly, because sometimes more said the worse, not better.

My comments are very GENERAL. Not related to any player or post.

We really need to be careful about discussing players, esp. players who leave the program for one reason or another or who don't play a game or games or season. Most often we don't really know why. A few insiders do but they need to be very careful with that information. Others are probably speculating and there is a good chance their speculation is incorrect.

If pressed I could probably come up with say 10 reasons why a player wouldn't play a season or leave or be asked to leave the program.

Players may leave an athletic program for:

1). Desire for more playing time, e.g., move down to FCS or D-II,

2). Some leave due to injury.

3). Some quit because of lack of desire to continue playing.

4). Some may wish to play at another program for whatever reason.

5). Some may have academic issues.

6). Some may have conduct issues including drug testing violations.

7). Some may wish to transfer to a school which better fits their academic interests (e.g., engineering, etc.)

8). Some may wish to transfer a program which better fits their individual athletic talents (e.g., different offensive style).

9). Some may wish to be closer to home (some Florida kids don't like being on a losing team, cold climate, etc.).

10). Some may drop out or transfer for family reasons, including poor health of a family member, maybe being the father of a child back home, etc. etc.

I think the team will play hard.

It today's game was LAST Saturday, that could have been a 'quit game.'

I really think being healthy and rested are keys late in the season.

These kids are beaten down, emotional spent because of losing, etc.

It isn't surprising in college FB or the NFL that losing streaks mushroom and teams' seasons really go downhill as the season drags on.

I'm going to add one to the list and I think it is more common than people realize. A player may stop playing simply because he does not have a passion for the game. Even if you are very good at something it is difficult to force your self to do the hard work involved if you do not love the game.
