If a white person had broken into the home of a young black family and shot the pregnant mother in the head three times and stood over her while she bled to death, I would feel the same anger and wish the same painful death on that thug. You are missing the point. The OP is elevating this crime based on who the victim is. I'm not arguing that this isn't terrible and if that guy did it should be put under the jail. What I'm saying is that the OP really should be just as angry at any murder, which happens daily.

Newspapers would be 12 inches thick if every crime was covered in this detail. The story here is big because the victim is innocent, which is rare. And yes, admittedly, the victim's looks also sparks interest. I don't think it is a race thing though. See Alexis Murphy, a stunningly beautiful Virginia black girl that was murdered by a trashy white man a couple of years back. That crime still appears in the news from time to time.

The reason this story got more press initially is because the media was hoping for another Lacy Peterson they could turn into a national media event.

Go visit a child's cancer ward and watch a nurse play a game with a dying child just to see him or her smile. A homeless shelter where a volunteer serves someone who is hungry a meal. Quit trying to find places to be outraged over. Look for the good in people. You'll be happier.

This is, I think, a hard-gained perspective, and therefore all the more valuable.
