If I'm South Carolina or anyone else in the SEC, I'd hire Miles in a minute

No crap. South Carolina should be rolling out their red carpet as they speak. No brainer for them. Pony up the dough.

I always wonder what would happen if some top-flight/legendary coach were to take over a much smaller program — Coach K to UNC Greensboro, Nick Saban to South Alabama, something like that. What kind of athletes can they draw? How successful can they be with the current roster? Do their programs become sustainable powers, do they fall apart once the coach leaves, or do they never rise above mediocrity because the other factors (facilities, TV, large-school presence) are too much to overcome?

We had a similar situation when Mike Price was hired at UTEP. The reason why Nick Saban is HC of Alabama is because they fired Price before he even coached a game. He ended up in El Paso had two bowl appearances then seven straight losing seasons.

I think you vastly underestimate the dumpster-fire that is ULM.

Aren't they operating at a loss (financially) and the school is cutting the football budget even more?

I'm pretty sure most of our public institutions operate at a loss, including the FB program.

I doubt they can cut it any more. But there really is no funding. Berry made 360k when he was fired. Good luck getting a top candidate.

They also have self-imposed admissions standards above NCAA mins for football because of APR trouble. (It's not because they're a tough school).

All of the money, and much of the salary for the new coaches, would come from the Tiger Athletic Foundation and not the university so it wouldn't even show up in the budget.

I'll bet they go to the AC ranks. My vote would go to Tony Petersen. How ironic would that be - Tony trying to win at a program that beat him in the 1AA Championship game?

I thought Tony was in the mix for the Marshall job when they hired Doc, but I could be mistaken.

RE: List of fired coaches grows again...
So I have this down as schools looking for new coaches. Keep in mind all these are known before the season is even over!!

-South Carolina
-Miami
-Virginia Tech
-USC
-Illinois
-Minnesota
-Maryland
-Iowa State
-Missouri
-Syracuse

Also
-Hawaii
-North Texas
-UL-Monroe
-UCF

Thats 10 for power 5 schools, and 14 overall. And 100% positive the list will grow. Potentials off the top of my head being LSU and Texas. Crazy amount of moving this off season.

Any thought that Charlie Partridge might be out at FAU?

I would think that if they beat ODU and coupled with that Florida showing, he'll get another year to turn it around. If he can't turn it around next year, then adios!

Personally, I was never sure why LSU hired Miles in the first place. His records at Oklahoma St. weren't overly impressive prior to going to LSU. He could recruit at a "smaller" school based on name alone for a year or 2, but what could he do with less recruiting dollars and less talent?? LSU really hasn't been in the National Title picture since 2011 and are on the verge of finishing unranked for the 2nd year in a row. If I'm LSU, I'd go after Art Briles, Mike Gundy, or Gary Patterson.

Mre then a few of the fan base this year was feeling that way with our start, and the continual heartbreaking close losses. I think the UF game has squashed any of that. CP is brining in talent and were starting to see that realized. I look at the success that USF and Southern Miss is having in year 3 of thier new coaches after struggling in years and 1 and 2.

Regardless, FAU does not have the Boosters nor liquidity available to fire a coach mid contract with a casuse.

That would be interesting. The thing about Les Miles is that he has one of the quirkiest, most dynamic and lovable personalities in the profession. People absolutely love him. His players worship him. His coaches love him too. If he goes to a big name school, their recruiting will go through the roof. Now, I am of the opinion that he can't coach worth a damn, and he lets his players get away with murder, but boy is he entertaining.

As crazy as this may sound, and I am not an LSU fan by any stretch of the imagination, but LSU is one of the most desirable jobs in College Football and your chance of success is far higher there than at say FSU, USC, Florida, and dare I say Alabama. Here is why. LSU and Ohio State are the only P5 programs in all of College Football that does not share their top ten recruiting grounds with an instate rival. Plus, money is no object at LSU. Florida State may be in the upper echelon of college football, but they do not have near the capital that an LSU would. The advantages that LSU has accrued both in the State Legislature and in the Public eye is some of the main reasons, we at Tech and every other program in the state suffer economically.

A firing of Miles would have to be one of the worst decisions ever made by the LSU administration.

The logic, and some of it I agree with is that given the amount of talent that they have had the last 5 years and no title justifies it. When firings like this happen, I cannot help but think of Nebraska firing Frank Solich after a 9 win season.
