He must have said something stupid. I figured he would have at least one more year.

There are a lot of happy SU fans in Upstate NY. Yes he did and said some really stupid stuff the last couple of weeks. including getting flagged 2 weeks in a row during games. And the postgame interview where he got stupid with a reporter and then walked away from the podium while his teenage son glared down the reporter. Theres no doubt now that they guy was in way over his head.

Shafer not helping himself

I think if Cuse ups the fb salaries just a bit, they'll get into a better pool of candidates. But this year with so many major openings, it might take a lot.

Joe Morehead from Fordham University. The guy recruits well at the fcs level and is in his 3rd season with double digit wins and has gone to the fcs finals twice, I believe. He's also from the northeast and played at Fordham. He would be at SU a while if he succeeds, as long as they pay him.

I agree. He also has experience coaching in the ACC footprint by being a HC in Kentucky, a QB coach in FL, and generally by coaching in the CUSA in general (there's a decent amount of geographic overlap between the CUSA and the ACC).

We should hire Diaco and start a formalish rivalry with UConn. I'm thinking that we could call the rivalry "ANY ConfliCT?."
*The question mark would be included in the name. Actually, I can go either way, but if there's no question mark, the "any" has to be underlined.

He lost his composure in Raleigh, that did not help. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/colle...97020.html

I know a lot of the 'Cuse fan base would have loved nothing more than for Shafer to have succeed. But it's time to put him in the Rear mirror and Look to a Bright Orange future with a great hire !

This is an accurate statement. Because of Shafers fieriness and outspoken persona, he exemplifies the typical new Yorker. That's why so many SU fans loved the guy. But towards the end, it was obvious that frustration was taking over and he became somewhat unglued. Its time for him to go with best wishes and best of fortune heaped upon his future.

So, what if Les Miles became available (as all preliminary reports suggest) -- would Syracuse make a run to get him...?

I think the obvious slam dunk for SU is Schiano. How do you SU fans feel about him?

I don't like Schiano one bit. Some Cuse fans do, for whatever reason.

I'm ok with Brohm and would be ecstatic about Miles, but he would have bigger opportunities than SU to choose from.

his contract only had 1 year left on it so for recruiting purposes he asked the ad for an extention. ad couldnt justify it with 6 wins in last 2 years
