I think RC will get some looks/interviews, but after the rash of failures of lifetime MAC coaches, and his lack of big school background, other will get the job. I think MAC loses Fleck, Babers and Campbell.

A lot of assistants will move up:

Brett Venerables- Clemson DC

My predictions based on open spots currently:

Miami: Mario Cristobal(Alabama Asst. Former FIU HC)
VT: Justin Fuente (Memphis HC)
USC: James Franklin
S Carolina Scott Frost
Missouri Dino Babers
Maryland Lane Kiffin
UCF Matt Campbell
Illinois Luke Fickell
Syracuse Dave Odom
Iowa St: Todd Monken
N Texas: Major Applewhite

Actually enjoyed your post----until I saw the name Lane Kiffin. I have no feelings for Maryland either way, but, good God, why would anyone want to make Kiffin a head coach again??

Carey has gotten the speculative treatment for Iowa State. Seems like they're hot for Navy's coach, and FootballScoop has thrown out UB's Leipold in on the basis of search firm ties

That Memphis coach should lose any good reputation he had built up after folding and quitting vs Temple

I would think that the Navy coach would be a logical choice for Maryland. I could see Iowa State being interested in Carey. I don't think the Cyclones have much bargaining power to get a bigger name.

Here is an article from CBS Sports that purports that Memphis has offered him an extension for $3 million per year.

Any coach of a team that quits doesn't deserve 3 million per year

I don't see Fleck on the list, maybe he will be the OC at Alabama after Kiffin leaves05-stirthepot

RE: FBS Coaching Openings
Those are actually pretty solid guesses, and probably the best post carter shaw ever made. However, lifetime of MAC coach failures. Dudes like Saban, Pinkel, Meyer, Don James, Bo Schembechler. Those dudes all sucked.

Not every program is going to want to promote from within, some want some head coaching positions. Also, another reason many of those coaches "fail", and I'm using quotes because football coaches do a lot more than wins and losses (although that's the biggest reason jobs are kept) is because they took over terrible programs. There is a reason those jobs opened.

You have to be smart and take the right job. There are plenty of examples of mid major head coaches having success.

Yep Houston is doing the same thing with their coach. Close to 2mil a year. Doubt those guys will leave for a minor change like Illinois or Maryland.

Interesting article that mentions Babers and Campbell but not Carey or Fleck as candidates

Round and Round - the coaches go

I have watched a fair amount of Toledo football this year and I have not been impressed with Campbell's decisions during the game. Coaching is more than that ... recruiting, offseason training, motivation etc and Campbell does have his team fighting for MAC championships every year. However, I am not sold on him as a game day coach.

Les Miles closed his weekly radio show by saying that he believes he is coaching his last game at LSU tomorrow.

He should hope so. He'll get like 12 million to go home.

That's pretty much every successful coach in the MAC.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see Miles hired by a school like Nebraska. They have no shame in firing coaches if it will "make the program better"

LSU is stupid if they get rid of him. There will be a ton of schools trying to get Miles to be their head coach.

Wait, you actually equate SEC fans with having intelligence?

Les is only 13-10 in the last couple years in the SEC and keeps getting squashed by their rival...and Les makes Saban money. They also have deep pockets....depending on their target, it's not as crazy as you think for them to want more.
