So Clemson and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the last undefeated teams...
EDIT: (Note: this thread is a year old)

I--I mean Iowa, Iowa is one of the final undefeated teams, that's what I really meant:

That's because the steel workers at that time only wore their logo on one side. Steelers were emulating that.

That's actually a pretty cool bit of trivia. Who says you can't learn anything from Internet message boards?

RE: So Clemson and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the last undefeated teams...
"In 1979, Hayden Fry helped to create the Tigerhawk, the logo seen on Iowa's football helmets.

Since both teams shared the colors of black and gold, Fry gained permission from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the dominant NFL program of the 1970s, to overhaul Iowa’s uniforms in the Steelers’ image. Fry's idea was that if the team were going to act like winners, they first needed to dress like winners.

Fry had originally asked Steelers Defensive Tackle "Mean" Joe Greene for a replica helmet and home jersey; Greene was able to send Fry to one of the team owners, and three days later, the owners sent Fry reproduction copies of the home and away uniform of Steeler Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, making Iowa one of only a few schools to use the uniform scheme of an NFL team."

So there you have it; Joe Greene re-routed Hayden Fry to the Rooneys, and the rest is Big Tenleven history. As long as they don't rip off the Terrible Towel, everything will remain cool with Steeler Nation."

"The Steelers logo is based on the Steelmark logo belonging to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Created by U.S. Steel Corp. (now known as USX Corp.), the logo contains three hypocycloids (diamond shapes).

In the 1950s, when helmet logos became popular, the Steelers added players' numbers to either side of their gold helmets. Later that decade, the numbers were removed and in 1962, Cleveland's Republic Steel suggested to the Steelers that they use the Steelmark as a helmet logo.

When the Steelmark logo was created, U.S. Steel attached the following meaning to it: Steel lightens your work, brightens your leisure and widens your world. The logo was used as part of a major marketing campaign to educate consumers about how important steel is in our daily lives. The Steelmark logo was used in print, radio and television ads as well as on labels for all steel products, from steel tanks to tricycles to filing cabinets.

In the 1960s, U.S. Steel turned over the Steelmark program to the AISI, where it came to represent the steel industry as a whole. During the 1970s, the logo's meaning was extended to include the three materials used to produce steel: yellow for coal, orange for ore and blue for steel scrap. In the late 1980s, when the AISI founded the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI), the logo took on a new life reminiscent of its 1950s meaning.

The Steelers had to petition the AISI in order to change the word "Steel" inside the Steelmark to "Steelers" before the logo was complete.

The Steelers are the only NFL team that sports their logo on only one side of the helmet. At first, this was a temporary measure because the Steelers weren't sure they would like the look of the logo on an all-gold helmet. They wanted to test them before going all-out."

It's not fair for Michigan. They had to face an NFL team today. They want to look like them so bad, only one side of the helmet has a decal.

This is a very weird and confusing thread. It turns out, it was just reprised from last year at this time. Really strange.

I only bumped it because Iowa wore helmets last night with only one side having a decal. They took their want of hoping to emulate the Steelers to the next level.

Mean Joe played for Hayden when he was HC at UNT or at the time NTSU, and the nick name "Mean Green" comes from "Mean Joe Greene" that's why there called the "Mean Green" only college I believe who has ever done this.

Bill Snyder took Hayden Fry's idea to Kansas State. He was Fry's offensive coordinator. Instead of the Steelers, K-State copied the Dallas Cowboys look.

Nobody has ever confused Kansas State Uniforms with the Dallas Cowboys uniforms.

The Steelers have a yearly trophy game w/ the USC Trojans. Weirdly enough, it's always in Iowa.
