??? We lose by 10 points to UTSA and slip only 2 places in the rankings, while FAU loses in OT at Top 10 Florida and they drop one spot in the rankings? Interesting algorithm you must have.

Well, we did beat FAU, so it kind of makes sense that we are at least ranked above them.

By that logic, why is UTEP ranked 5 slots below us? I don't understand how FAU can drop a spot in the ranking after taking the #10 team in the country into OT on the road, yet we drop only two spots losing handily to a team that was actually ranked 7 places below us before Saturday.

Florida Atlantic did improve, but several teams just below them (UTSA, SMU, and Georgia State) last week actually won their games and passed Florida Atlantic. My system rewards close wins over close losses, no matter the opponent.

Additionally, because my system uses strength of schedule, their opponents this season were a combined 3-6 on Saturday, thus limiting the improvement that could otherwise result.

With respect to Rice, here are the teams just below the Owls last week:

104. Troy (DNP)
105. Louisiana-Lafayette (lost to New Mexico State)
106. Fresno State (lost to BYU)
107. Tulane (lost to SMU)
108. UTEP (lost to Louisiana Tech)
109. Army (lost to Rutgers)
110. Florida Atlantic (lost to Florida)

As you see, it is pretty hard to drop too many places when so many teams just behind Rice also lost.

Will also point out that, presumably, this weekend's results only account for about 9% (1/11) of a team's ranking, unless you have weighted recent games higher.

We are at 145 in Sagarin.

Massey has us at 114 out of 128. Rated lower than Rice is ODU, FAU, UTSA, UTEP, UNT and Charlotte. C-USA occupies half of the bottom teams in the country. Wow.

After 114 systems have reported, Massey has the following:

111. Rice
112. Florida Atlantic
113. UTSA
114. UTEP
121. Army
124. North Texas
127. Charlotte

All among the Bottom 20 of FBS.

It's quite impressive to be that bad across the board.

I know that we aspire to scratch the top 25.
I am ok with keeping it between the markers in our down years.
But I'm very disappointed with being in the bottom 25 of FBS.
