Game Day: (A day early) MSU
My first reaction, catching the online Detroit News story, is that mid-Michigan got hammered with snow. Wow. Howell got 17". Like Howell is what 30 miles from MSU?
"Storm dumps nearly 17 inches of snow on Howell"
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/lo.../76221728/
Anyway...
My second reaction is how much E. Lansing got?
My third is that maybe I should check the Lansing paper... my fourth: '79 should know.

We didn't get close to that amount and we're about 30 south of that line (I96 corridor).
Bigger question...how bad are we going to lose to MSU tomorrow?

My hope is that we can keep it around 15-20, that would be respectable.

Using the Sagarins, I'd guessestimate that we'll be a 20 point underdog.
I think we keep it to 15 - 20 points. MSU isn't at full strength.
BTW, for those interested in how our opponents are doing:
Vermont is playing well. They lead Buffalo by one at the half tonight. Won two other games.
Oakland lost a wild one @ Colorado State, 95 - 89, after leading at the half.
So if I got this right, Oakland has played two games and scored 180 points. Definitely not Murphy ball.

My fifth reaction: Talking about the weather beats talking about the Murphy zone defense. We've had many, many discussions but Luckeyone is always willing to till ground which has been tilled.

I'm positive and hopeful on the MAC season.
To date, I can not find a dominant MAC team.
Prediction: Wide open MAC race and that should be fun for us.

I got about 8-10 inches at my house. Howell is about 40 miles from MSU. Main roads are decent. Some students have taken off for Thanksgiving already. There's a new bus/train station open now in East Lansing not far from campus. Soon the dorm Christmas decorations will be up.

Wow, if that line had gone say 30 - 40 miles to the north:
1). We wouldn't be playing,
2). We would probably lose a big payday.
From my days in S.E. MI, 8 - 10" of snow is a pain but life goes on.
But 17", take the day off, have the kids do snow angels, etc.

Take it for what it is worth, but this article is suggesting Ray Lee will be coming off the bench. (Might just be that they don't see him in starting line up, so assume off the bench...being unaware of suspension)

I think the author, who is very knowledgeable about MSU and WMU, is not up to date on EMU.
IF he had a 'CNN Breaking News' story he would have written something like, "Raven Lee, expected back from a three game suspension, is expected to come off the bench tonight for Murphy's Eagles team and give EMU an additional scoring threat."
Lot of this has to do with knowing what writers know and don't know about which teams...

Steve, I agree that is the most likely possibility. But, you never know. The guy could have actually made a call to the EMU information office. We'll see.

If he called the SID's office he would have gotten no comment.
Murphy has kept things completely mum.
The only public statement was at the very last minute before the Vermont game.

MSU moves all the way up to #3 in the AP poll.

And, without Gavin Shilling playing a minute.
MSU is good and undefeated but they are kind of near the top of an undistinguished bunch of D-I teams. There doesn't seem to be any powerhouses.
So far this seems a good characterization of the season with top teams like UNC, G'town, Wisconsin, etc. already losing to not top tier opponents.

Izzo nails it. Everyone is losing so they had to move State up.
Mark my words: The top of the NCAA is a complete mess. Take 10 teams put them in a hat and draw the tourney winner.

I think the cat is out of the bag:
Chad said "Lee will be back soon..."
This is game #4. I'll repeat what EagleTotem said: six games.
so if I can do so high math: 6 games (EagleTotem) - 4 (number of played games after tonight) = 2 games (Wed and Sat).

Flashes of brilliance from Thompson, especially grabbing an offensive rebound over Valentine. Of course he's already picked up a foul, though...
Came out hot-ish and jumped up 4-0 before that 8-0 Spartan run.
