I know it sucks because of all the teams that are losing. It was lining up perfectly for us. But the fact is we aren't good enough yet. Fuente has mustered all he can out of a bunch of 2 stars and walk ons. Yes Fuente could have recruited better. But that will come, granted he stays.
Perspective folks. Prolly about to be 20-6 over 2 seasons. That's huge.

I just posted this almost exact same thing in a separate thread. Maybe our team is simply maxed out our talent?
In that case, even more respect to our players and staff actually.
Good post and point.

I get the 'could have recruited better' idea, but given how the recruitment happened before we were "good," I'm quite happy. Now that we have two years of "good" results, I'm curious how our recruiting goes.

RE: 18-6
Three things:
1) He's likely gone next year
2) No way we do better next year (if he stays), with a new QB (sorry, Paxton is gone). We'd be lucky to win 6 games next year
3) Let's say we get nearly all the recruits we think we need to be competitive against other teams with 3 and 4 star players. How many will be immediately impactfull? It seems to me that there's a bit of a learning curve to our play style.
I just don't see us being this good again for at least another couple of years and Paxton is that once in a lifetime QB that single handedly won us at least 4 very close games this year. We could have easily have been 6-5 right now. Just my take on it.

We won some close games, but lost a close game too. For that matter, both the Tulane and the Navy game were very much up for grabs heading into the fourth quarter.
So...overall, 8-3 seems right.
Get to 9-3 Saturday, show up, and then look forward to smacking Auburn in Birmingham.

Even if Fuente stays, we need a better defense...It is not all talent on that side of the ball.
