i thought Maryland's previous coach was a great coach and probably the best Maryland has had. i was stuneed they fired him for UCONN's coach

He was a pretty good coach. His first 3 seasons were his best at MD (3 10+ wins). Then it was back to the MD normal. Mostly average with a terrible season and 2 pretty good seasons (9 wins).

Also, he wasn't fired to hire Edsall. Contract negations about an extension and APR issues. I, like many other Terps fans were disappointed when he was let go. And even more so when they hired Edsall. There were plenty of rumors about MD hiring Mike Leach but it didn't happen. Lots of people say the BoT wouldn't let it happen. So the Terps ended up with Edsall and 5 years later we are looking for another coach.

Agree. Both FSU and Clemson pay very well, as much as anyone not named Alabama or Texas. FSU just won it all and Clemson is on the cusp of the CFP now. Why go to a tougher road to the CFP if you're already competing at that level? Even if they double the pay, going from 3.5 or 4 million to 7 or 8 million probably doesn't change your life. Doubling my salary does change my life, but there comes a point where it is probably less of a deciding factor.
Also Florida has No state income tax on salaries so that in itself is a major Bonus to income levels to compete with higher salaries elsewhere except maybe the Texas job.

There are a lot of schools looking to hire a head coach this year. And there may be more head coach positions opening up this year. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Ralph Friedgen for one year and making that high profile hire next year. Maryland would obviously have a lot of apologizing and sucking up to do.

Jim Tatum and Bobby Ross are MD's greatest football coaches.

I'd add Jerry Claiborne to the list. Thank you Virginia Tech!

Ditto, he was the first to rehabilitate an ACC program after the 800 SAT Rule.
