Bobcats tied it with a coupe minutes left in the game but Florida State held them off, 90-81 final. Ohio shot 50% from the floor and 42% from 3.

EMU gets thumped at #3 Michigan State, 89-65.
BGSU soars on the road against Florida Gulf Coast, 82-77.
WMU handles Rochester at home, 85-73. I believe the visitor's star, Jack Benny, was out for the contest.
Weber wins 63-60 against CMU on a neutral court. Watching the game critically, the Chippewas are in a world of hurt if Chris Fowler doesn't come back strong from his undisclosed injury (or doesn't come back at all).

Is Dick Motta still coaching the Grills?

Sure looks like tier 1 is Akron and Akron only right now, with a huge massive tier 2 probably too large to list. The is very deep and I am not sure you can really throw anyone out of tier 2 right now.

The Fowler situation seems very odd, any word when he comes back?

Akron has to get healthy, though. It's not like the Zips have one player out, but three of the top 8 in the rotation (Robotham, Forsythe and Jimond Ivey) are out for at least the next couple of weeks, and another starter, Jake Kretzer, who knows? He has a history of rapid heartbeat issues. Hopefully, for his health, it is nothing major. But, IMO, it didn't look good. He shot a three at the end of the Villanova game them immediately grabbed his chest and went straight to the bench. The announcers thought he took a shot to the chest, but he was untouched. Scary sight.

On the surface, it looks like something the coaching staff is concerned about as they brought in freshman Daniel Utomi in the final minute of a 20-point game. The staff had said that he was redshirting this year. Why burn it if there was no doubt things would be OK with Kretzer?

Plus, a fifth guy, Josh Williams, is still less than 100 percent due to back issues.

On the bright side, if Akron can get past Green Bay tonight, they should be favored in every game until they play UC Santa Barbara and Iona around Christmas in Vegas. By then, Ivey should be back. Kretzer maybe as well (he may not miss a game, or his career is over, there is no telling for now). Robotham is a question mark, but since he is from Vegas, I'm sure he is targeting that tourney as his return date. Forsythe could be out a while (broken rib), but maybe he can also get back by then.

not that it matters in the long run, but we actually came back from a 13-point deficit and took a 62-59 lead in the second half before FSU came back for good. worth noting, I think! :-)

Well CMU without Fowler, I wouldn't disagree, but with Fowler I would absolutely disagree with that statement. It's not real clear on the severity of his injury, and at this point there is no reason to rush him back prior to the start of conference play. CMU's OOC wasn't strong enough to get an at large look even if they ran the table, definitely not now with a loss to Weber State. Might as well get Fowler as healthy as possible to punch their ticket with the autobid.

My bad. Apparently I was having reading issues yesterday.

Toledo's game Wednesday against SJSU is on CBS Sports Network. Same for their games Friday and Saturday in the great Alaska Shootout should they keep winning.

Basketball 11/23-11/29
Fools make definitive basketball rankings in November.

These games don't mean a whole lot in determining how good teams are, hence so many big upsets.

Some teams take a while to figure it out, some never do, and some look great in the first 6 weeks and then fade away.

What you see now is usually not what you'll see at the end of February.

The best team the MAC ever had looked awful in November and December.

Forsythe, Ivey, and Williams all played for Akron last night.

I think it's funny with the Akron box scores - there's 2 "A. Jackson"s. Last year I saw a Northern Illinois box score, and since there was 2 "A. Armstead"s, they included the second character of their names, so there were 2 "Aa. Armstead"s

Wed- 3-0 vs cupcakes, CMU loses to Milwaukee and in a late game Toledo down three to San Jose St halfway through the 1st.

Worth noting, SJSU went 0-28 vs D1 teams last year.
