could we only have 5 bowling??
Since UTSA beat Rice and if FAU kills it against ODU, that puts CUSA at only 5 eligible right?? And we have 7 bowls correct? Boy, the West dropped the ball this year. Sorry guys .

RE: could we only have 5 bowling??
Very likely only 5 eligible teams now, and almost certainly not more than 6.

Rice is tied for #6 in the projected 5-7 APR sweepstakes, and with this week's projection there would only be 3 5-7 teams needed. An ODU win over FAU would make it even harder for Rice to also be able to be high enough on the APR list to have a shot.

Rice needs all of these results to happen to be guaranteed to be in position if it beats Charlotte:

Buffalo loses at home to Massachusetts
East Carolina loses at home to Cincinnati
Tulsa loses at Tulane
Kansas State loses both at Kansas and at home vs West Virginia

And none of these things can happen:

South Alabama wins either at Georgia Southern or at home vs Appalachian State
Illinois wins at home vs Northwestern
Kentucky wins at home vs Louisville
Minnesota wins at home vs Wisconsin
Old Dominion wins at home vs Florida Atlantic
Georgia State wins at home vs Troy and at Georgia Southern
Louisiana-Lafayette wins at Appalachian State and at home vs Troy
Texas wins at home vs Texas Tech and at Baylor
Rutgers wins at home vs Maryland
Vanderbilt wins at Tennessee

Results for these teams don't matter to Rice because the teams are either guaranteed to be 6-6 or 5-7 with a better APR than Rice, or the teams can finish no better than 5-7 with a worse APR than Rice:

Indiana, Virginia Tech, Washington, Missouri, Nebraska, San Jose State, UTEP, Troy, Virginia, New Mexico State, Texas State

If ODU doesn't become eligible, the East will have dropped the ball just as much as the West.

Can't possibly get 7 teams eligible unless one division has at least 4. And since the East has one more team, it should be getting one more eligible.

Even if our APR was anywhere close we aren't winning another game this year.

So I'm pretty sure we will have 4. While you will have 2. Because the West is probably the worst division in FBS this year thanks to Rice sucking lately. Everyone knew NT would suck, some had hope for UTSA, and no one ever expects UTEP to be better than 6-6. But Rice let everyone down.

The East went about how it will always go, Marshall, MTSU, and WKU top 3, then ODU and one other school try to get a bowl (this year it was FIU), then at least one of the F_U's always suck and Charlotte will be a cellar dweller for another 5-10 years.

Alsmost forgot and since UABs dismantling and subsequent return they too will suck for 5-10 years. Starting from scratch isn't easy. We know from experience.

Thank God there is a Sun Belt conference so we won't ever be looked at as the worst G5 conference.
