It would be nice if Mizzou and Auburn could switch. Both want to do so.

But the big opposition would come from Alabama and Tennessee, who would not play each other each year in such an arrangement.

Then they should switch Auburn and Alabama for Vanderbilt and Missouri. Tennessee could keep the 'Dores as their permanent rival. Besides the East would still have Kentucky.

Alabama would hate that. They want to play LSU, Texas A&M (remember UAT doesn't stand for Univ. of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, but really the University of Alabama for Texans) and the Mississippi schools.

I think more than a few West schools really like playing Alabama every year.

I suspect the easiest vote to pass is to get Auburn and Missouri moved over the objections of Alabama and Tennessee. Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Missouri, and Arkansas should be in favor of that. I would imagine that TAMU would be too.

I would think that LSU wouldn't care. Neither should USC. Vandy might not like it. And UK might not either.

I'd be fine with it. I just don't know which one would be the tougher go. Also, I'm not so sure that Alabama is as important to Tennessee as Tennessee is to Alabama. We'll see.

Says an SEC fan. UF, the SEC East division winner, needed help from the refs to squeak by 2-8 FAU. No one is buying the ESPN SEC hype anymore. The only dominant team is Bama, after that.....ZzZzZzZz

Alabama could fall to Memphis, Houston, Navy or Temple. They have a bunch of flaws that have been exposed with Ole Miss. They could lose another game if they are in another conference.

They lost to Northern Illinois and to some Sun Belt schools in the past. You may not know how good those teams are until Bama faces them.

Wasn't Bama on probation or just coming off probation from those losses?

I don't care how ugly the W is as long as the record says W.

(11-22-2015 09:41 AM)BruceMcF Wrote:  Now, I know that some people have issues with Sagarin, but OTOH, Sagarin rates conference divisions, which allows a simple kind of test of the proposition that these results in the SEC East imply that the SEC as a whole is over-rated. I'm going to use simple average rather than centrally-weighted average, since it is what allows the averaging together of a whole conference from the two divisions:

1. SEC West
2. Big12
3. PAC12 North
4. PAC12 South
5. Big Ten East
6. ACC Coastal
7. ACC Atlantic
8. SEC East
9. Big Ten West
10. I-A Independents
11. AAC West
12. AAC East
13. MWC Mountain
14. MAC West
15. MWC West
16. MVC (Sagarin's system does seem to love the FCS schools)
17. MAC East
18. CUSA East
19. Sunbelt

And now, averaging the individual division simple averages to form the conference ranking:

1. SEC
2. Big12
3. PAC12
4. ACC
5. BigTen
I-A Independents
6. AAC
7. MWC
8. MAC
9. CUSA
10. Sunbelt

Now, subjectively, is the SEC West so much better that it offsets the SEC East being weaker than a number of other P5 Divisions? That, different people will see it different, that's the whole point of a subjective assessment.

But is it plausible that the SEC West is so much better every other P5 division that it offsets the SEC East being weaker than many P5 divisions? On Sagarin's number it is, at least on a simple average of his power rating, so it is at the very least plausible.

{Note that simple averages favor some divisions and centrally weighted averages favor others ... for instance the Big Ten West is 7th in Sagarin, based on the same individual power ratings, when the division is centrally weighted, while the ACC Atlantic and SEC East both gain a spot with a simple average instead of a centrally weighted average.}

Good, even-handed analysis. I don't like the SEC, but I have to give them props for winning on the scoreboard. Massey's ratings compilation also gives the nod to the SEC. Had no idea the two divisions were so different.

That LOL makes you look silly. Alabama got whipped by Ole Miss who got thoroughly whipped by Memphis.
