Interesting stat....
Coach Cubit won 44 games against D-1a/FBS opponents in his time here at WMU. Of those victories, 5 wins came against teams that ended the season with a winning record.
He only beat two winning (again, D-1a/FBS) teams in his last 5 years as our head coach.
This isn't supporting or not supporting a coach. Bill Cubit was a good enough guy, no coach should get judged based on anything outside W's and L's in my opinion.
So far Fleck is continuing a middling tradition of being average. It started ages ago, and was continued in the Cubit years. This happens when you beat the 1-11's and lose the games that mean something.
Both coaches have ceilings, I think the one knock on Cubit is his is somewhere around average, ask the Illini fines what they think and this is what they will tell you.
Fleck's is yet to be determined but so is his floor.....either way you slice it, one coach has pretty much written his book and the other hasn't accomplished a thing...other than some corny slogans and a few 40 yard dashes.
Winning matters, that is all.

Big difference? P5 wins. Oh yeah, and FCS losses.

Those P5 wins were against terrible P5 teams, bottom of each conference at the time.
You can polish the Cubit era turd all you want, I can go on with the nepotism and terrible red zone offense for days, which by the way is already getting its fair share of gripes from the Illini fandbase.
It's funny they are speaking about him the same way we mock Fleck.
I think their favorite is "if only post game press conferences counted as W's"
Anyhow, not sure what endeared some of you to Cubit, you're probably even older than me and enjoyed his "humble" yet "tough" ways and his "traditional" style.
Gimme a break, actually no , give me wins!

Wrong. Iowa at home needing that win to be bowl elgible, Virginia was far from awful when we beat them. That Illini team we beat, not bottom feeding. More middle of the pack. Try again.

Terrell has been healthy so far. The loss of Carder early in the season was the nail in the coffin for Cubit.

OT stat: Not one Michigan MAC or B1G team will be playing a home game tomorrow, all somehow avoiding playing in one of the biggest November snowfalls in years.

Why, oh why, are we bringing up Cubit again?
He had 8 years to deliver a championship, and he didn't.
PJ has 5 years, in my opinion, to deliver.
Next guy will have less...
I'm getting terribly impatient. 1988 was far too long ago.

RE: Interesting stat....
UConn win was vs. a Big East school which at the time counted as 2 P5 level wins.
Illinois was a bowl team if they beat us that year.
Virginia was bowl eligible the year we beat them.
Iowa was bowl eligible the year we beat them.
Please let's keep the spin to a minimum.
Cubit was a combined 10-14 vs. NIU, Toledo, CMU (.417)
PJ is currently 2-6 (.250) with the chance to make that .333 or .222. These are the games that count...Cubit's record wreaks of "average" but PJ needs to win this week, and sweep all 3 next year to get to "average"
