Eureka game status? predictions if played
I assume a game of this magnitude will be cancelled postponed due to weather. But if played huskies start 4-0 for first time in over 20 years:

NIU 92
Eureka 61

Does this game really count for a win? DeKalb High School could give NIU a better game. Good game for MM to pad his win loss total for the year.

Yep it counts, I don't think it does for things like RPI calculations though, not sure. But for W/L record it does. When you consider just how crazy good and deep the MAC is this year, I think we will look back and forgive a few easier games on the non-conf schedule. Heck the Big 10 has padded its W/L record for years like that.

When has a Big Ten team ever played a D3 school?

Trust me right now, Zelis needs something to get his confidence back up. I really hope he turns into a productive player because that was a scary 3 game stretch.

Its not ranked as high as the 2nd best mid major so far this year behind the WCC like last year, but it also is not nearly as bad as the MVC, right now MVC checking in at #23 for conference rank. Ouch lol

Can we not have another thread derailed by this turd, please? All you guys have to do is ignore his posts and don't respond.

Also, is the weather look THAT bad? Since when is cold weather and snow enough to stop a basketball game?

That's a good point, it was probably overstated. After all, much of it may melt on roads. I was probably being too much of a wimp.

It looks like this ESPN3 thing is really scaled back this year, wondering if we end up seeing only 1/3 of NIU's home games on ESPN3. Last year was so nice.

EDIT: Oh sweet! Looks like ESPN3 has the Eureka game per gamenotes! I was not going to brave the elements anyway coming in from northern Indiana

Also per games notes, the NIU-Eureka series is tied 2-2

Between Dekalb and Antioch it looks like they're calling for 8-12 inches over night. Snow that quickly can derail just about everything.

We'll see if we actually get all of that, though.

Now this is some rich series history per NIU game notes hah

Eureka won the first meeting, 22-12, on Dec. 17, 1920 in Eureka. The Two teams met in Decatur, Ill., on March 5, 1921, a 38-22 NIU victory, and Eureka claimed a 29-19 win in DeKalb on Dec. 16, 1921.

I think somewhere between 5 and 9 inches is reasonable, its just going to be such a wet snow, it should be very very difficult to get amounts on the high end. Even 8 or 9 to me seems like a stretch but we will see. The thing I know we always worry about in these early events are people measuring snow elevated on blades of grass

RE: Eureka game status? predictions if played
folks who make comments like this "DeKalb High School could give NIU a better game. Good game for MM to pad his win loss total for the year." obviouisly never watched much less played Division III basketball. A midling D3 team would, many years beat the IHSA state champions. The guards are very GOOD but most DIII teams lack substantial size but can often shoot lights out. The difference in physicality between high school kids and D3 MEN is enormous which is what makes such statements ludicrous.

Definitely agree on the lower side -- the problem with wet heavy snow is exactly that though. And with the potential rain coming before the 100% snow (and sub 32 temps) it could get dicey (and hard to move said wet heavy snow)

Either way, Go Huskies! Sink the Eurekas
