RE: OSU Gamethread
Since OSU went to a zone late in the 1st half we have struggled offensively. Not getting the ball inside easily like early.

Egor finally connects, and Rice cuts the lead back down to 12 with 14:30 to play.

OSU continues to kill us from the 3-point arc-- they've now made 10-20.

ML-E having a breakout, all-around game tonight. Unfortunately, he's missed a couple free throws. 3 steals already.

Our zone is just too slow. We don't get out to guys and all it takes is swinging it around the perimeter to get a wide open 3.

Max also having his best game so far-- ton of energy. 5 pts. 4 rebounds, 6 assists.

Our FT shooting is holding us back. Only 10-15, and we've missed on the front end of one and ones 3 times already.

We look much better tonight. I know our guys have to be better shooters than what we've seen. A little more time and some of these 3s will fall but I think being at home helped the freshmen a lot tonight. Credit to Oregon st. for hitting some 2nd half shots that have NOT been easy.

Thought the crowd outside of the student section was pretty weak.

According to the Athletic Department, best student turnout in at least 5 years.

The last time I can remember thinking that our student section was picked was our game against Memphis that we won back in 2010 (?). There were a few during the Braun era, but they were either very early in the season or against a big name/UH. Student attendance definitely wasn't anything to shake a stick at the last three years, so it's good to see people so excited. Hopefully we can keep it up in December and January.

I too thought the non-student turnout was pretty sad. I don't want to hear the argument that it's tough to get excited about CUSA opponents when a Pac-12 team with a good basketball history like Oregon State brings in just an average Rice crowd at best.

RE: OSU Gamethread
General thoughts on game.

Offensively, we were decent. The four freshmen we do have are all pretty good, but Evans is clearly the star to me. Letcher-Ellis had a strong game too (we just are going to have to deal with some silly fouls from him I'm afraid) and Cashew needs to be starting (like now) instead of Mency IMO. Guercy and Drone had decent games, and Egor finally hit some shots late. I think one of these games he'll go off for like 30-35 points, but he does seem to be a streaky shooter.

Defensively, we have to get better. Evans and Letcher-Ellis had some nice defensive plays in the second half.

Overall, it was a much better performance and an indication that this season isn't a lost cause. I'm not sure if Oregon State is an NCAA team (probably not because they're just too young) but Payton is solid, and they have a very nice freshmen class.
