I have said this for some time. Hoopdreams has consistently put forth a clear rationale that Memphis has more talent than most every team the Tigers will play.

Sadly, just look at the prediction thread. The good posters are the one's that predicted Memphis to fall short.

Hmm, I wonder what the reason could be for that discrepancy? 04-cheers

Said we could potentially look up in March and conclude that AN leaving was a good thing because it meant not being forced to try to run the offense through AN in the half court (both because he was our best player so we felt like doing so was our best hope and because he's not athletic enough to play the style we are playing this season).

This post comes from ignorance. Any coach in the nation would take AN in a heartbeat this season or next including JP. We would definitely be a tourney team with him. Don't have to slow to a crawl or run half court every time to use a players with his skills. Everytime i read something along these lines just remember: we have played 2 games and AN is a very good player (like him or not).

Austin Nichols at Center on this team would have been a good thing offensively...Defensively he still would have been a liability
.

LOL. He was in top 2-3 in blocked shots last year.

If it does, thank God we got Damon Stoudamire and Daddy Lawson.
If it does not, we blame JP.

Correct?

Pastner hired both, so he would get the credit.

I've always given him credit for his recruiting as well.

I don't know about blame - I've just been consistent even since Austin transferred - there is still good talent on this team, especially when you consider the lineups on the schedule...maybe 2-3 opposition coaches tops wouldn't trade rosters IMO.

For the same reasons that so many came DJ's way.

Let's pump the brakes...

The worst thing this team could do is start thinking they are a tourney team. What I saw the other night was a team with a chip on its shoulders....keep it.

I thought he was a sure fire NBA player being held back by the coach. Now your saying that Parish says he's not athletic enough to play Memphis style basketball. How's going to make it in the NBA then?

How many times were we burned because his man set a screen...How many times did his man grab an offensive board...How many times did his man score on him...Normally when he blocked shots it was from help defense...Austin was horrible on ball defender and had very slow feet so anytime a switch happened we were in BIG trouble.

He will be 'developed' at UVA.

Austin was doing really well hedging on pick and rolls by the end of last season (he was doing better as a sophomore than Shaq as a junior).

Oh course if Austin switched onto a guard it created a mismatch, that the case with just about any post man. Dorsey was a great defensive player even though he couldn't guard someone on the perimeter. Post players don't need to do that.

Austin was probably our best defensive player last season.

Agree to disagree...I do not think he was even close...IMO He was not a good defender.
