I bet that creating these are fun. Maybe I'll do Jonesboro some day.

Where it says ****** Wal-Mart it should use my nickname for it. Murder Mart.

It is the closest Wal-Mart for several good neighborhoods but equidistant to some bad neighborhoods. Guy I went to chuch with was walking in the parking lot one Sunday afternoon when a kid came running by with a stolen purse and shot in him in the head in front of his wife and kids, wasn't trying to stop him and hadn't said a thing.

The Wal-Mart has been conceded to the poor neighborhoods and you go to Target across US67 or drive to the Wal-Mart in Sherwood now.

In all seriousness if any of you Atlanta-ites want to inform on/advocate for any areas of ATL, I'd love to listen. I'm up here by myself currently because I just started a new job, but will be looking for a semi-permanent place for the family after the first of the year. I work downtown and would like to keep the commute to 1/1.5 hours or less, need good public schools, looking to rent a single family home/townhouse to start with. Appreciate any info you have, thanks.

I love Smyrna. Great place for families and growing quickly. Alpharetta, Gwinnett, and East Cobb are all nice suburban neighborhoods with excellent schools as well.

Chastain Park and Decatur are really cool neighborhoods that are closer to "the City". Rent will be a lot more than in the burbs, but both areas have great entertainment/restaurants and both have good public schools.

If you work downtown I would look south. The Fayetteville and McDonough areas are nice especially if you have a growing family and you avoid the traffic woes of coming from North Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and Dekalb to downtown in the morning. Your commute from Fayetteville will be under an hour on most days.

I live in Midtown and love the proximity to everything the city has to offer. My favorite neighborhoods in Atlanta are Morningside, Virginia-Highlands, Candler Park. My favorite Suburbs are Decatur, Smyrna, Brookhaven.

Oh yes. As a graduate of South Cobb High, Bankhead Hwy in downtown Mableton you'd find the Barnes family(as in Gov. Barnes) feed store and separate hardware store. It was the same Bankhead Hwy that would cross the Chattahoochee River into Bankhead Courts in Fulton County. When I grew up there, south of Bankhead and east of the main drag we're predominately African American. South and West was the poor white neighborhoods. Westside became Hispanic and middle class lived on the north side of Bankhead and east of the main strip. There were farms still spread throughout all those areas in the 80s to mid 90s. It was quite the melting pot at South Cobb High.

Mainly from the Southern Part of Cobb myself. The last of my extended family fled about 15 years ago from Mableton.

75 near McDonough is as worse as traffic gets in all of metro ATL. They are putting in a reversable Lexus lane though.

I am a NE of the Migos.

Nowhere as bad as topside. Not even close. It took over 45 minutes yesterday afternoon from Windy Hill and Powers Ferry to Powers Ferry and Delk. That area from Cumberland and Galleria in Cobb to 400 and Dunwoody is the worst.

I work downtown and live on the border of Old Forth Ward and Inman Park. Actually buying a house over here. Shoot me a PM and I can give you a good run down on things.

My cousin lives in Alpharetta. His wife does interior decorating and he works from home. Doesn't help the commute issue but I might be able to get some info from him for you if you like.

FWIW - his step-daughter is a freshman at GS.

We've got at least a dozen vehicles here. Toss in the horses, and it's a nightmare at rush hour.

Takes me around 40 minutes from Buckhead to the Marietta Square every day. The 75 corridor isn't horrible. But stay away from I-285 on the topside.

Going against traffic commuting is the Atlanta Dream.

RE: OT-Judgemental Maps (mildly NSFW)
The biggest thing I found fascinating living in Atlanta is the ITP (inside the perimeter I-285) v. OTP (outside the perimeter I-285) thing. I'm from Augusta and I live ITP and NONE of my neighbors are from GA. All my friends live OTP and are from the south. I find it interesting most southerners prefer suburban living no matter what background you are from. I guess they can't give up that yard and space. All my neighbors are transplants from the north. They are always surprised when I tell them I'm from GA.

I'm not sure if that exist anymore. I have found traffic in all sorts of new places this year.
