Our offense...
...needs to:

1) Use the halfback screen pass more often.
2) Stop targeting either Braverman or Davis 100% of the time.
3) Stop following Donnie Ernsberger on every run play.
4) Get rid of the ball in at least 3 seconds -- even if you have to throw it away outside the pocket.
5) Stop penalties that kill every drive.

What is your assessment?

He's doing what he's been trained to do. Not his fault.

We don't use 40 minutes of clock because we control the ball. We use all of the clock letting the OC read the defense, then he calls down, and either keeps the play or changes it. With 10 seconds left the OCs call is sent in from the sideline and ZT either stays with the original call or checks into the new one.

While I'm sure he has check downs it's clear he usually sticks with what was sent in in the last 10 seconds. Hence he locks in.

RE: Our offense...
I'm interested in how Ciarrocca was able to coach up an NFL ready QB at Delaware but we are having these issues now.

Granted I don't know much about the situation at UD when he was there. Possibly the credit is misplaced.

Either way it appears this offense is limited. I fear we'll waste one of the greatest collections of talent in recent WMU history (IMO) if this isn't fixed by the stretch run next year.

Joe had similar issues as a raw talent NFL youngling, Kubiak and crew taught him to be a real qb. Mr Defensive.

RE: Our offense...
Uhhh... Our offense is predicated currently on a QB option variation. We either hand off or pass... Or the QB runs.

Yet... Our QB is never a true run threat.

If you run a "read" option, you need to allow the QB to read the option to hand or run. We currently only run a read run/pass option... ZT runs maybe one time a game... No team sits on him. Not effective. Period.

It's there...

and how about using Franklins talent...hes not a decoy and downline blocker....Give him the ball in the redzone for godsake. Our Red zone efficiency stinks. We are forced into far too many field goals after nice drives.

RE: Our offense...
When we pass on first down we are extremely successful. Take what the f-ing defense is giving. If they are defending the run, then pass, if they are defending the pass, then run. Play calling really doesn't need to be right out of the old school football handbook. Predictable offenses are for losers. Ask the lions.

RE: Our offense...
Despite the changes-evolution of the game (Spread Offenses, emphasis on passing), this remains true: You have to be able to run the ball, and stop the run, to win.

We couldn't do either in critical situations last night.

RE: Our offense...
The Spread offense is really tough to defend when QB is a running threat, like having 12 guys on offense.

Otherwise, not so much.

Especially when you only have to cover two receivers.

6) Get the ball in the endzone when you have first down inside the 30. We have production to get down the field and then come away with 0 or 3 points. That might work against Miami, Balls Tait and EMU, but when you play top tier MAC teams, it's not going to cut it.

7) The best offense is a good defence.
