P4, maybe.

Definitely not a new (sub-)division. There's no incentive for that.

The P5 (or P4 if it ever comes to that) want a viable G5 within the FBS. If they didn't think they were valuable to them they would not have given them roughly $90 million a year and a golden ticket to the CFP. They didn't do that out of the goodness of their hearts.

And the G5 own 5/11ths of the CFP, anyway.

There are some FCS that are valuable to the P5 schools as well. Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Cal-Poly, Cal-Davis, Sacramento State, Portland State, North Dakota State and so forth.

Northern Iowa is valuable to both Iowa and Iowa State to continue playing. Maybe the Big 10 should call some FCS P5 type schools?

UNC won't join the SEC (unless their backs are to the wall) because they look down their nose at what they think are academically deficient and culturally backward (i.e., redneck) institutions.

I seriously doubt Oklahoma, with their #108 US News Ranking and a student body made up of prairie dogs, does the same.

It's not about where Oklahoma is, it is about where they want to be. If you cant understand that and how that might cause Oklahoma to look at the SEC in similar fashion as UNC might...well you are an SEC fan so that is no surprise.

You do realize that the SEC has a higher average US News ranking than the Big 12, right? No, you almost certainly don't. And yet Oklahoma affiliates with the Big 12 anyway. Go figure.

You seriously think Oklahoma "wants to be" anyplace better than any SEC school does? You think any school, Oklahoma or SEC, ranked #110 doesn't have aspirations to move higher? That's 01-wingedeagle

Oklahoma may have ten different reasons for not wanting to join the SEC. But the reasons North Carolina has aren't any of them.

What a silly point. Oklahoma is with the big 12 because it is an extension of The Big Eight. They are still with it because of particular agreements. This requires work behind the scenes. That is happening.

Your point about being part of the big 12 means that Oklahoma would love the SEC is just terrible. Sorry, it is.

Yes, where Boren and crew envision Oklahoma in the future does matter to Oklahoma just as it matters to UNC. I get it though, you will squirm continuously as long as this is brought up.

People who aren't academic snobs don't care about average USNWR rankings of each conference, because they don't care about the "average academic standing" of a sports conference at all. Perhaps their own University's standing, but not the people they play in FB and BBall and all of those other sports.

And academic snobs don't care about USNWR rankings ... those are marketing numbers, not academic bragging rights. For academic snobs that a University President may have to pander to, average CWUR or AWRU or THE rankings might be more informative ... but AWRU does not list enough Universities, and does not give individual ranks below the world top 100, and THE does not list a school that did not give information to THE, so I guess CWUR would be the go to, there.

And in that case, since its academic snobbery, which is irrational to begin with (and, yes, there's a certain irony in that), what actually matters is the opinions of those that have to be pandered to ... they could well be out of date, with Florida and Vanderbilt in the SEC now being joined by Texas A&M and Mizzou, and Colorado leaving the Big12 for the PAC-12, but the kind of people who expect to be pandered to often get to keep out of date opinions intact for quite a while without anybody correcting them.

It doesn't really matter if or why OU wants the B1G. OU isn't good enough for the B1G.

Why is that hard for you to internalize?

On the other hand, research numbers don't lie.

I just dismissed someone's silly idea that they wouldn't want to for the same reasons UNC doesn't want to. Because that is a silly idea.

But go ahead, blather back at me.

It'll be interesting to hear what he has to say when OU doesn't join the B1G.

Quo morphs into his "cover my ass" mode by insulting H1. If you cant understand that a school like Oklahoma has choices and will absolutely look at academic groupings in regards to that choice, just like UNC did, then I cant help you. For you to deny that your SEC Pride isn't part of this is amusing. Nice try. 07-coffee3
