UAB TRUSTEES SET 14.5mill. hard cap DOWN from 20.35 mii.?
http://www.al.com/sports/2015/11/post_74...icle_small

According to the article( approx.paragraph 24). Trustees set a hard cap of 14.5 million for the yearly athletic subsidy.Previous subsidy for football(only?) was 20.35 million.

What gives? Thought public statements were made that funding from the univ. would remain the SAME.Any more funds needed for football enhancements would need to come from private fundraising.I could have read the story wrong.

Can someone from UAB give us the full scoop and an explanation in detail? Thanks in advance.

14.5 mil = not counting student fees
20.35 mil = counting student fees

Subsidy from student fees can increase, subsidy from the university cannot

And yeah, the 20.35 was our whole athletic subsidy obviously. Football received 1 or 2 million of that.

Yep. Hard cap is only for money coming directly from University funds. The students voluntarily increased their contribution.

Great to hear. As someone who is only getting information via this message board, I was afraid that little Bear had thrown another roadblock in front of you.

That hard cap is a road block but we again found a way around it/thru it. It is their way of hamstringing us as how many other universities have hard caps set in stone???

It is a roadblock but I think it is something that eventually needs to happen for most schools. The subsidy is drastically increasing every year due to coaching salaries inflating dramatically and tuition increases, though I believe UAB should allow for scholarship inflation).

The hilarious part is that Alabama is one of the reasons coaching salaries has skyrocketed in the past 10 years. They set the precedent for paying coaches absolutely outrageous salaries with Nick Saban.

This is old news that has been discussed on this board. That article is nearly three weeks old and the 14.5 million hardcap isn't even the main topic. You could just came to Blazertalk and ask the question. Or maybe you thought you were breaking some major news.

Another attempt at a boot on the throat.

They fought us tooth and nail on a foundation and we basically told them to F-off and to stop us publicly. They have enough light shining on them now they backed down but insisted certain board members be on board. They are but have no vote... It's for transparency. Our team did an excellent job negotiating things and making sure we control the donations.
