Exclamation The table is now set.... We must win out and actually root for WMU to beat Foledo
Never thought I'd be saying that but Bowling Green got shat on tonight, so it set's up the scenario that if NIU wins out (beats WMU and Ohio) and WMU beats Toledo, we can safely coast into the MACC vs BGSU. Now, I'm not a numbers person, but how does it go if we win out and finish in a 1st place West tie with Foledo??? We lost to CMU, We beat them, they beat CMU... i feel like we had a scenario like this before (last year) and still got chosen for the MACC, but i never truly understood how it worked. What does it come down to for a scenario like this?

If NIU wins out they win the MAC west. They don't need help from anyone.

Ok, that's what I was hoping cause I know that's how it went down last year... wasn't sure if anything had been changed or not. I mean, it's a bit confusing how Toledo can have an almost perfect season, lose to us, and essentially that's it for them.

Well, they would have one conference loss (which would happen to be their only loss), and we would have one conference loss (but beat toledo). Therefore we win the tie break.

RE: The table is now set.... We must win out and actually root for WMU to beat Foledo
Ok, good to know, thanx for clarifying... so I get it now... so how would it work in a scenario where lets say.... Both of our only losses was to WMU, but WMU lost all their other conference games and weren't in contention at all... would it come down to margin of loss? .... but then again that scenario is impossible because we play Toledo every year.. nvm my stupidity, putting too much thought into this haha.

Please change the title of this thread or just delete it. Nothing changed with what happened tonight. We win the last 2 we're in. Period. That's it.

The only thing that changed tonight is that we can't clinch this week. Toledo loss and CMU loss would've allowed us to clinch with a W tomorrow, even with an L next week. Now we have to win tomorrow and next week to get in.

Got to say, the Bobkitties seem to be peaking at the end of the season.

RE: The table is now set.... We must win out and actually root for WMU to beat Foledo
There are two scenarios where NIU wins the MAC west:

1) WIN OUT - this is simple and the preferred way
2) Win tonight and lose to Ohio and then we need help of WMU beating Toledo - NIU wins the tie breakers

If we lose tonight - we cannot go to the MACC as we can not win the tiebreakers

Let's hope for the first option

Regarding #2 we also need a CMU loss, there is very small chance of 4 two loss teams and we don't have a head to head tiebreaker with CMU. Not sure who would win a 4-way tiebreaker

We do not need a CMU loss - with this option NIU, Toledo, CMU and WMU would have two losses.

How it plays out: With wins over both the Broncos and Rockets, NIU have a 2-0 head-to-head record without CMU. With CMU, it would go to combined head-to-head. NIU have a 2-1 record, as would Toledo. CMU and WMU would drop out with 1-2 records and then it would go to NIU vs Toledo head-to-head, which the Huskies own.

I am not sure how this works, but if NIU loses to WMU we have a 1-2 head to head record.

Regarding cross over Eastern MAC teams NIU would not win a two loss tie with CMU.

NIU only has two scenarios to make it to the MACC - please see above.

If we lose tonight to the Boat Rowers - we cannot win the MAC west.

Or to WMU or Toledo since they both played BG who has by far the best record in the East. We need to win our last two games period.

In scenario 2 above, CMU would need to lose to either Kent or Eastern too. Otherwise CMU would only have 2 losses also causing a greater than 2 team tie which NIU cannot win.

Again here are the MAC tie breaker rules.

Three or more teams:

1 Head-to-head record among tied teams

2 Record of tied teams within the division (versus rank order, highest to lowest, of division teams)

3 Comparison of conference winning percentage of cross-over opponents of tied teams

If the Huskies lose tonight, their streak of consecutive trips to Detroit is over, and the winner of Toledo/WMU goes to Detroit, having only lost one MAC game. In that case, you can cheer for whom you personally favor, it means nothing to the Huskies.

If NIU beats WMU but loses to Ohio, then we need WMU to beat Toledo, so that everyone in the West has two MAC losses. NIU would win a three way tie with Toledo and WMU, and a four way tie if you add CMU.

But all the Huskies really need to do is just take care of their own business, and what the rest do will not matter.

EXACTLY what I said

Assuming we win tonight

NIU wins a 3 way tie with toledo/WMU and NIU wins a 4 way tie breaker with Toledo/WMU/CMU

lose tonight and it does not matter
