What new &/or different elements could we expect that would be so different from what has been built elsewhere -- especially on what is probably going to be a "bare bones" budget?

They will definitely be bringing in elements they've used before. That's part of the point of hiring a company that specializes in a given type of facility. They will have to pick out the elements right for the project and fit it into the available land, tie it into the BJCC, etc. You can't just go to Costco and buy a football stadium.

I can see why a company might need a few weeks to narrow the dozen or so other stadiums to a top 3 or 4 based on size, budget and land allocation. What other elements could there be that are totally unique only to B'ham?

Now if you have to stretch it out to match funding flow, that could be a reason. Paying more for longer time and getting less in return has been used by the state and municipal governments since forever.

Doing it quicker would cost more money, not less. This isn't the only project they're working on, making detailed plans will take time (think, they will have a plan of where every bolt and wire goes), and they are incorporating an overall plan for the BJCC, not just the football stadium.

I know everyone wants it done quick and now, but I hope that no one rushes to get it done and over looks something. One year at legion Field, to ensure that everything is covered, won't kill us. It can be our welcome back tour...so to speak

Maybe a silly idea and someone more knowledgeable would have a better idea, but could the stadium be ready in an incomplete state early? Basically leave off the facade, concessions stands, anything not structural and essential, and be playable for 2017 and then in the offseason have a second "grand opening" in 2018?

Anything can be done but you will cost everyone more money and hamper completing the project by trying to use it before it is complete. As a builder and developer it's a bad idea.

That's one of those things we'd like to have happened yesterday, but we had to get this done and get it done correctly," Clark said. ""We had to get it done and do it right."

I don't want our last moment at LF to be that horrible funeral we had against Marshall. I want us to have that moment of having a last game there in 2017 as a celebration of where we've been and where we're going. By 2018 it'll be done right in Uptown and that first game will be something special.

That's a great thought BL. Kind of a farewell tour to LF.

There's no need to rush. Playing one more season at Legion Field will allow us to bid farewell to the only home stadium we have ever had and to try to break the single game attendance record which will barely be possible if the new stadium seats 45k.

I assume that's possible, but not an idea I support. Many people who go to the new stadium will be watching UAB for the first time. With a lot of those fans, we may only get one chance to make a first impression

With the two Gorries of Brasfield and Gorrie involved, it will go up as soon as humanly possible, and a damn sight faster than Mark Ingram thinks possible.

I can see them playing in it with the playing field and the grandstands on each side built, but the closed end not yet done. I'd rather get into it fast when it only holds 35k than wait till it is completely done. If they don't like it, screw'em.

Not that our opinion matters.

I wouldn't mind a farewell tour for the old grey broad. It's conceivable that UAB would be the last team to play a game there, period.

Hell, I just want to see us on a field again.

Just wait, though. There well be much crying and gnashing of teeth when the wrecking ball comes to Graymont, but mostly from people who haven't darkened its doorstep in 20 years.

Once upon a time, fifteen sour-faced bammers voting "yes" on a bond issue for UAB football facilities thought so, too.

I doubt it. I'm sure the Magic City Classic will still be held at Legion Field at least until after the 2021 World Games. With this new downtown stadium and UAB being the permanent tenant, would UAB still have to schedule around the MCC if it moves to the new stadium?

Yeah, would be crazy for the city to even think that. The new stadium won't be city owned.

I agree AB. Foundation's Hatton Smith and Coach Clark aren't going to let it be done have cocked. We've fought too hard for this. It needs to be done right and be "world class" by anyone's standard.

I would think if we signed exclusive tenant rights, we get first choice. But then again, money talks.
