As a general principle, yeah, but I think ESPN would gladly accept the risk of possible apathy in the west if they get a playoff that includes Alabama, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.

Agreed.

Notre Dame fills in for the PAC, this year. They're national and have rivalries in the West. The West will root for ND.

they may be national in scope, but the West isn't going to cheer anymore for ND than they would if there was a Pac 12 team in the playoffs.

More would cheer for the Big 10 team, given the ties between the two conferences, as well as the hundreds of thousands of Buckeyes that infest the west.

And most the country will cheer against the SEC :)

That's a fair assessment.

And I'd be curious to know total counts of living B1G alumni in PAC states and vice versa.

I don't think western fans would cheer much for any of those teams in particular over the others.

I do think that the increased eastern interest in having three "king" programs in the playoff would more than offset the decreased interest in the west. The eastern and central time zones together have 70% of the U.S. population.

But the West has a lot of money.

Ratings only matter at the end of the day to advertisers if their adverts can get the viewers to buy the stuff.

but look last year- Ohio St/Alabama with 2 eastern schools got better ratings than FSU/Oregon did with western school.

No, I was saying that, in spite of the fact that the West doesn't have a high population and thus won't be able to pull as high of ratings, ...

Ironically, none of Notre Dame, Oklahoma or Oklahoma St will play a game on the final weekend (CCG weekend).

Obviously we'll know for sure after this weekend, but I'm assuming it will come down to Bedlam to decide the champ.

And OU lost to Texas while Notre Dame kicked Texas butt.

I know it's a hypothetical discussion, but the real issue is who would care? If they all have two losses they aren't making the CFP. So arguing about declaring a champion at that juncture would be kind of stupid. Just hand out 4 sets of rings to salve the feelings of 4 schools who missed the playoffs.

You must be responding to the OP?

I doubt that either of TCU or Baylor wins, this week. That sets up Bedlam next week as the defacto XII CCG.

Yep, I see it that way too. And, I was responding to the OP. In that hypothetical nobody wins and declaring a champion is an absurdity because of the premise.
