He is on the hot seat and a lot of people are predicting that he will be fired. I cannot see a better fit at vt or miami if he is let go. Thoughts?

Les is very close to retirement. He is 62 and if let go by L.S.U. the buyout on his contract will be 15 million. If the last few years indicates anything negative about Les it's that like many coaches who rake in the top bucks he may have lost a little of the fire and become a tad complacent.

Miami needs somebody with a ton of energy. Virginia Tech doesn't need another guy who is close to retirement. Virginia Tech could do well looking to Houston. Miami is its own can of worms.

For the reasons JR mentioned, I tend to think Les Miles will end up either on TV or retired from football.

I know one university in NY that would love to get their hands on him lol It won't happen, but SU fans love him (LSU was really classy in the Dome this year), and the SU admin would see him as a God-send.

The latest rumor on the VT position is that someone has been hired and all signs point to Chad Morris.

Hey, you wouldn't have to pay him much ($15M severance pay)

Ugh! I hope the Hokies can do better than a 1st year losing G5 head coach!

Being fired could reignite the fire in Miles, I wouldn't underestimate him. You have Beamer & Spurrier to handle the TV duties for retired coaches. If not VT or Miami then why not Syracuse or Virginia?

I love Frank but I don't think we'll see him on TV. He doesn't speak as well as he used to since his throat surgery.

I hope not. I think VT can do better.

Lennville this is a perception issue based on age. Young people can't imagine retirement. We old folks yearned for it when we started eyeballing 60. Imagine you had spent your whole life away from your family and you suddenly realize that at age 62 if your immune system shut down (genetic trait) that something could take you out before 70. Then you realized that you had never spent much time with your wife, kids, and grandchildren. Now put that in a setting where the job at hand demands your time 9 months out of the year almost 24/7.

Football is great, a career can be challenging and fun, but when the reality of death is around the corner, your priorities change and coaching your preteen grandchildren suddenly becomes far more rewarding than putting up with a random bunch of amped up jocks that it is difficult and challenging to reach, coach, and control. If I were Les and had millions coming in for a number of years to come, I'd pick the grandchildren and family over the jocks all day long every day. And, I'd dance a jig to be rid of having to be upbeat with donors and please the fickleness of changing administration. Now when you're my age I imagine you'll be posting similar things.

Oh I understand that but some people live for their career & nothing else matters. I don't know Les so I don't know what he wants or what's important to him at this stage of life. If he chooses to retire that's great but don't think he can't coach just because he's 60.

RE: Les Miles
What is funny about Les Miles getting canned is, everytime coaches are evaluated, SEC media loves to cheap shot Jimbo (Clay travis ranked Jimbo 18th best coach in the nation, year after he won a national title)......yet everytime a spot openings up...the SEC media mentions Jimbo first.

Either it is part of their non stop media push to tear down competition or they are just morons and don't understand their contradiction.

Should be interesting....Jimbo will look at LSU because he has ties there, but I just laugh of the insecure SEC media. IF he he turns LSU down....watch them go after Jimbo.

Yeah I keep hearing Jimbo's name too. Another interesting one that pops up on their boards is Larry Fedora.

I don't get the chad Morris hate. They are 2-9 but they have been a thousand times better than last year and the recruiting has gone up ten times.

June Jones left Chad absolutely nothing to work with plus we played Baylor, TCU and 3 other ranked teams

RE: Les Miles
I will also say they have only really had three games that they had a chance in on paper. Lost one to jmu which is tough to ignore but it happens. I mean like 5-6 of their losses came to very good teams that should have beaten them. I think smu got what they paid for.
