Could MT get Two on the Freshman All American Team?
Stock and James are making a case. I can't remember putting one on the offensive team much less two. They are both leading there position in practically every statistic. Could be a bright spot in a dark season.

Good possibility. Little Stock is a shoe in. James is actually having a better season but tougher for receivers to get noticed outside the P5.

Byard was a freshman AA though I can't recall which publications.

I actually like James chances better than Stocks. More spots for WRs. The Love for P5 may get Rosen in ahead of Stock even though Stock's numbers are way better.

That's a good point. Though I don't know how many different versions there are. There's more than one and then the number per position varies too.

I think they will both be on a list or two.

If little Stock and James finish out the year as well as they played the first ten games; they both deserve consideration. But the national media will pick UCLA's QB Rosen over Stock. And, if they can find a frosh receiver from one of the Cartel-5 programs, they will ignore James, too!

they are the wrong type of nastybunch (fyi, is a reference to our D in the '80s and not the poster on this board)

winning at the right time makes all the difference in the world when it comes to recognition by those fellers.....

wish them both nothing but the best of luck.....

Here's the thing about Rosen. Yes, he plays for a P5, but it's going to come down to how effective we promote Stock's seasons. The SID - Owens is pretty good at that part of his job.

So check this out. These are the defenses the two have faced. The I-AA game will give it away but which one would you think has faced tougher defenses? Rankings below using scoring defense as the metric:

97 -- I-AA
93 -- 7
39 -- 109
106 -- 34
91 -- 11
33 -- 63
78 -- 66
77 -- 54
103 -- 8
86 -- 85

Stockstill's is obviously on the right. Averaging scoring defenses that Rosen has faced is 80. Average scoring defense Stockstill has faced is 48 (sans the I-AA game). So, Stockstill has put up better numbers and done so arguably against better defenses.

I like it. Plus Rosen is not getting the hype he was to start the season but still we know the hurdle we face as a G5. Owens needs to start now. Could probably use a little help from the league's PR arm as well.

Like I said over on our board. Rosen will probably get the nod over Stock just because he has been getting hyped since the day he committed to UCLA. Stock definitely deserves it but we will see what happens

They both deserve to be on the team but I doubt it happens.

Didn't hurt Chris Weinke.

He even looked old.

That's funny coming from a fan of a team with a 6th year senior. Has he already applied for his 7th yet? Gotta get those papers in soon. Isn't he like 24 now? Brent will basically be the same age when he is a senior. Y'all need to polish that glass house before you start pitching rocks.

brandon doughty turned 24 this season.

you middle fans have cried long and loud over doughty and his number of years. just thought i'd stick that mirror back on you.

and i'm sure if little stock gets hurt during the next 3 years middle won't apply for a medical redshirt. right? (and i'm certainly not wishing any hurt on the kid. but it happens in football. look what happened to leon this year for us.)

my question is would he be able to do a medical redshirt? you only get so many years to play 4 right?

Doughty exists outside of time as we mortals understand it.

Only James made it. Stock should have.

I just don't put a lot of stock in USA Today's.

I prefer these:
Associated Press
American Football Coaches Association
Football Writers Association of America

And I think Brent will make freshman AA on at least one or maybe two.

I saw it coming from a mile away. P5 bias at its best

Stats wise, Stock was actually a good bit better than UCLA's Rosen. So I imagine he'll be on at least one list. For example...

Rosen vs Stock...
59.5% vs 67% completions
20-9 TD-INT ratio vs 27-8 TD-INT ratio
3349 yds vs 3678 yds

He did it against statistically better defenses too. See post #7.

USA Today, ESPN, etc., you know which way they are going to go. Hoping the ones who actually do evaluation on this will see that Rosen's season was statistically inferior to Brents. Playing in a P5 conference doesn't necessarily guarantee you faced better defenses across the board.
