Bottom 25 Rankings
Thoughts on this article from CBS sports? Think it's an interesting take, but quite wrong. How on earth is Ball State worse than Umass if Ball State beat them h2h? And Umass has a worse record? And has only beat- yuck -EMU? Only good thing I found about this article is that Kansas is bottom 5. What is your opinion on the MAC teams (Umass 18, Ball State 16, Miami 11, EMU 10) ranked?

-Note- I realize these aren't super mathematical rankings, but still think it is interesting to look at the list

Pfft.
Quote:My opinion has absolutely nothing to do with the rankings. They are based on a mathematical formula of my creation. Every week I enter a bunch of different numbers into a spreadsheet, and that spreadsheet then spits out the rankings based on the data I entered. So keep this in mind before you call me an idiot, which I know you will.

Head-to-head is pretty compelling in my book, but if you really want the counter-argument on the extremely important debate as to who is the true 4th worst team in the MAC...
UMass has the better win (FIU), Ball State has the worse loss (Ga State), and Ball State's extra win is completely worthless because it's a 12 point win over a 2-8 FCS team whose only wins are over non-scholarship programs. Nobody serious schedules those guys. They haven't had a winning season this millennium.
With the 11 point wins at EMU cancelling each other out, what we're really comparing is a statistically even home win over UMass and a close loss to Northwestern vs. a statistically dominant home win over FIU and a close loss to Temple. Hardly crazy for a computer formula to rank UMass/BSU 18/17 instead of 17/18, especially if it doesn't put extra emphasis on head-to-head games. Bottom line is hopefully neither of us are going to hang "Top Ten MAC Finish 2015" banners after this season. Even the Colts wouldn't do that.
I happen to think UMass, BSU and Miami are all pretty much the same. We'll figure out the UMass-Miami pecking order this weekend. EMU has lost to all 3 of those teams by double digits, so nothing to discuss there. Last place in the MAC is settled.

I would agree no disrespect to UMass. UMass had a nice game against Toledo that they ended up losing. Same with Ball State and Northwestern.
EMU stay the joke of the MAC
