TOB's troops sucked so bad that he beat FSU twice, Clemson, UNC twice in his last three years. His 2010 team came within one game of winning the Atlantic.
Doesn't matter now. DD is here. Hopefully you guys will not screw it up and lose to Cuse this weekend. We need as many good wins on our resume as possible.
I wouldn't expect a longtime UNC fan to understand the need for a Professional level QB.
You have never had one and don't know what one looks like. This has been the UNC Achilles heel (pun intended) for the last 70 years.
Since 1960, NC State has had 5 professional level QB's, Roman Gabriel, Eric Kramer, Phillip Rivers, Russell Wilson, and Mike Glennon.
The QB position is so key that a top QB can cover a lot of deficiencies as Wilson and Glennon did for TOB, as Rivers did for Amato. Amato had substandard defensive talent until his fourth year. Had River's redshirted a year, he would have been on offense at the same time we had two first round choices on defense - but they did not align.
For most the last 7 decades a UNC qb was a glorified handoff boy with a few exceptions. You have never had someone who was fast, smart, and surgical with his passing. That's probably cost you at least 4 major bowl bids and a possible national championship if you had that qb to go with Dooley's best defenses, Crum best defensive, and Mack Brown's last two years.
TOB left the cupboard more then bare, more than that he cut off old recruiting ties and created a severe generation gap, but hopefully that's the past.
Look at how smart Bowden, Dabo, Beemer, Fischer, and others seem when they have a NFL quality QB, a Heisman QB, etc.
