this is a must win for the conference. i know troy won at south florida this weekend but south florida also lost to the new jersey institute of technology. i have no idea what south florida has but njit?

phil cunningham was a longtime assistant at mississippi state when they had some good teams and we liked him in his short stay here as an assitant at western. he was named as a top 25 assistant before he took the troy job.

i don't know if he's turning it around down there or not. i'll pull for him because i like him as a coach and he's a son of the commonwealth.

but i'll be pulling for uab in this one. we need to be beating sun belt teams. good luck blazers.

NJIT is not a bad team. They won over 20 games last year, including @Michigan. Pomeroy has them at #152 which is squarely "Above Average"

you're not allowed to use pomeroy.

i hate the mules with a passion normally reserved for uk.

they lost their point god to the nba. they lost their coach to iowa state. they lost to a funeral home named freed-hardeman. then they beat a funeral home named harris-stowe.

you guys had a lot of new players early last year but pretty much everyone back, right?

this is the best situation you could possibly be in playing murray. but you will be playing 5 on 8 down there in retirementville. and i'm not a ref hater. never blame the refs. but if you go to murray or evansville you will suffer a cornholing the likes that hasn't been seen since ned beatty got rammed in deliverance.

as sickening as it is i will be pulling for middle.

expect to see a lot of this:

That was good stuff. Thanks. I really have to get you out to the tailgate next year. Would be good times.

So, sounds like they may not be as good this year. Is the 2.5 points we're giving because of the 8 on 5? I've learned to stop doubting Vegas.

Yeah Beed is a classic for sure ........ But everything he said was spot on , it's hard to beat the Mules at home from the hosing that you will receive. The best WKU teams seem to lose there against some of the mules worst teams. This year sets up perfect for MT to railroad them.....and I hope you do

Don't know if it is any tougher than playing at Belmont.

It's a genuine 'Cluster ****' when you play there, especially if Doug Sirmons is calling the game.

in all honesty i don't know their players. i do know against freed-hardeman they didn't guard the 3 very well or at least that's what their folks said. and they shot it horrible. they must have fixed it for harris-stowe.

if they're not getting good pressure outside giddy should light them up, no?

they have a kid named croaker that's a tremendous athlete. they recruited him hard and he went to a texas school (big name) and maybe it was even texas. found out he was just one of many down there and got no clock. he'll be best athlete on the floor for them though. their best returning player is probably jeffrey moss.

when we played down there last year they shot LIGHTS OUT in the first half and essentially beat us then. we came back in second half and made a game before they pulled away at the end.

most teams with a bunch of new players are weak defensively (we are right now) but that can be fixed. new coach. new players. maybe you're getting them before they fix their dee if they ever do. it's not been their strong point. kermit usually has kids that will get after it on dee. that could frustrate them. but it also could send them to the line 40 times tonight. i wouldn't be surprised. they don't lose many in that boat show palace. (it's not actually a hoops arena....it's an event center that has boat shows and tractor pulls and ballgames.)

and you are correct. they didn't build palaces in the middle of the desert on losing bets. but that number is basically home court advantage. i'm not saying this is a game you should win. but i think you could.

MT women take on Central Michigan on Thursday up in the frozen tundra and then face Ole Miss on Sunday at 1pm CT. Should be another large home crowd (it is Pack the House / Operation Sellout day) with the father-son rivalry continuing in Murfreesboro. Ticket sales appear to be matching the Virginia game if not better. I expect another crowd of at least 6,000.

I think MTSU is going to win this game. Murray isn't the same team as they were last year.

If all else fails, this seems to work against Murray:

what happened at charlotte was tragic. why wasn't your coach able to keep some of the talent from transferring out? i thought charlotte had the best basketball talent in the league last year short of utep.

the freshman guard was a stud. really long athletic bigs. but ya'll threw the ball around like it was on fire.
Late reply, but three of the guys were reportedly already out the door (or pretty much so) before the old coach was even fired. It's a tough sell at that point.

Based on where they went, you might be right about the talent (and definitely right about the lack of cohesion). Thorne is starting at Illinois this year (grad transfer), Dorn transferred to NC state and Woods to Wake Forest. Clayton was reportedly a malcontent (i.e. probably better off without him even though he'd have given us post help this year) and transferred to Georgia St. The rest graduated. For the first 3, it's tough for a new coach to keep players when their old coach was fired and they're getting those kinds of offers.

I think Charlotte would be tough this year if Price had been able to keep everyone around (except maybe Clayton). Hopefully he can patch up the mess left behind with duct tape until we can fill in the sizable holes in the roster.

thanks for the informative reply. i had seats down on the floor when we played ya'll at home and Dorn is the one that really impressed me. high caliber athlete and basketball player. nc state stole one.

and a malcontent ending up at ga. state under ron huckster? say it isn't so. lol.
