he's easily the front runner for cusa coy....

we still got games to play....

all the older posters know what I think about monk.....or anyone that's read my crap over the last 4 yrs....

let's just enjoy what's going on right now and cool the jets.....

edit: if we win out including the ccg, an argument could be made in favor....I'll give ya that

You mean if S.Miss wins out?

I can't see him winning CUSA coy unless S. Miss wins out of at the very least wins the west.

Without winning the west S. Miss will be 1 game over what most thought preseason?
Wins
A. Peay*
Texas St**
UNT
UTSA**
UNCC***
RICE
ODU***
UTEP

* not FBS
** FBS 5 years or less
*** Did not have a football program 5 years or less ago

UNT
Rice
UTEP

Sorry but that's not COY worthy

If Western or Marshall wins CUSA coy should come from the winner. Its just as hard being a front runner with everyone gunning for you and to win as it is to be picked 3rd and finish 2nd in your division. Not only that but actually win some games vs schools with a winning record.

Most folks had us behind Rice and UTEP this season.

It's not our fault the conference kind of sucks this year and is extremely top heavy.

Great for a Backpage ad, not so much for a conference ... 07-coffee3

Well played.

I did and so did anybody watching them. How many transfers and Jucos did they pick up between this season and last season? They shored up a lot of holes from last year and it shows.

No doubt, the Juco's and transfers have played a huge role in the turnaround this year.

I don't want USM fans to think that I was taking a slight at you guys when I posted that. We won a division with a Grad-Transfer at QB and could very well do it again this year.

Not a slight at all. Monken knew he had to win this year and to his credit he did what it took to make it happen. A 4th straight year of losing would have made a bad situation an even harder disaster to recover from. You somewhat roll the dice with these transfers, but Monken won with the vast majority of them.

Keep in mind that Marshall's Holliday is a.) now starting only 4 starters on offense that he broke camp with on first team offense, b.) looking for another 10 win season and title in a rebuild year, and c.) has not won a CUSA COY award.

Recognizing that Southern Miss has turned the corner, I think believe Holliday has overcome a lot of adversity this year. He's basically been going the last half of the season as a converted WR as his 6th deep RB, switched QBs, didn't start the same starting offensive line until game 8, and he's pasted together a championship-type season with a MASH unit on offense. I also wonder how much of a "lifetime achievement" due factor comes into play.

Not a knock on Monken, who I'm really coming to respect as a guy who will get it done at USM, but I feel Holliday has done his best coaching job this year.

Thre is a hell of a lot of difference in reloading one side of the ball after winning a conf title and changing the culture of a program that won 4 games in 3 years. Ray charles could see tm as a front runner for this award.

I think even if we finish 8-4 he will have a fair shot at it...

however, right now I am only thinking about getting past odu....

None taken by me...Recruiting is recruiting as long as it is legal and fair.

Lucas standing to the left of Tyndall makes the number 10.

It was a reference to the previous comment that said "..Recruiting is recruiting as long as it is legal and fair."

Hence the ironic photo of POS Tyndall.
